I need to buy an Android tablet for academic use. I went to BestBuy to check them out and they range in price from $100 to close to $600 with no obvious rhyme or reason to the variation. What do you get when you pay more for a tablet and is it worth it? [more inside]

I am a student and I want to fly off for some time before the coming Fall semester. I was thinking going away for 2 weeks. Spending 1 week in Busan, S-Korea, then 1 week in Japan, for example Tokyo.
I tried using flight search engines but the price is exorbitant for me. [more inside]

So long story short, my macbook's screen cracked out of warranty and I don't want to fork up the money to fix it. I am planning on nabbing a laptop from Costco, but their selection is... sparse, to say the least. Help me nab the best one! [more inside]

I've heard a lot of good things about ABF's ReloCubes, both on here and from friends, but the prices I've heard bandied about are wildly lower than what I'm being quoted. Am I missing something, or have their prices just skyrocketed recently? [more inside]

I recently purchased a Costco executive membership, and am pretty thrilled with how much I'm already saving. But I only want to nab the good deals, and it's hard to individually compare each item's price to the other supermarkets I shop at. So, I'd like to hear what you consider to be Costco's consistently top bargains; also, are there any sites that list Costco's prices for the month relative to other stores' prices? (and maybe even show the items with the biggest savings?) [more inside]

We're trying to optimize our home printing. We don't print an enormous amount, but we want to print in color and to be able to print in moderately high quality.
You've already solved this problem and put some thought into minimizing cartridge expense: what printer do you use? how often do you replace the ink? do you refill the cartridges at a store or buy new ones from the OEM?
(Bonus points if you've solved this problem for the HP 8600.) [more inside]

I have previous tutoring experience (as well as being an Ontario Certified Teacher). I'd like to get back into some tutoring/editing work on the side, but I'm not sure how to charge for what I'm hoping to do.
I don't really have the time or the flexibility to offer one-on-one tutoring, so I was hoping to offer "editing online" types of services where someone would email me their work and I'd send it back in x
amount of time with corrections, editing suggestions, etc. I've done this in the past for journalists, law students, etc. and it seemed to work well. Here's the problem: how do I set up a reasonable and attractive fee structure for this? [more inside]

On NPR today, I heard an explanation of why there are less safety requirements for cargo planes than for passenger planes: Every time the government (USA) wants to implement a new safety measure, they are required to run a cost/benefits analysis. Since an accident on a passenger plane can kill a whole bunch of people, while one on a cargo plane is likely to only kill the pilot and the copilot, it's more difficult to get a safety measure past the required threshold on the cost/benefits for a cargo plane than for a passenger plane. This to me implies that they must have put a dollar value on each human life; otherwise they couldn't compare cost in dollars versus benefit in lives saved. What is that price? [more inside]

I'm a web developer / eLearning developer on Windows 7 looking to: 1) Get a Mac because I need to be able to test sites quickly and easily on my own; 2) Get a Windows-bootable unit that can act as my backup machine when my Asus
throws a tantrum as it did this week; and 3) Get a reasonably portable Windows-bootable laptop that can handle Photoshop and other resource hogs so that I can work on it at client sites without having to barely squish the Asus (aka "The Clydesdale") into my largest backpack. Ideally, I could get all three in one machine that wouldn't cost the earth. Please join me as I anguish over the MacBook Air, the MacBook Pro, the Mac Mini, and other options. [more inside]

I am responsible for compensating a two year old TV bought for $900 then. (A guest in my party broke and no one is owning up...ex-landlord is behind me now)
Similar model (brand new) is $600 now all included and being demanded 600, citing the higher price paid then.
What is a fair price that I should pay?
How do I make a convincing reply ?

I read a passage about a writer's drug use, and the drug use of his friends. The gist was "we wanted the party to go on too long, but the price was too high" and it had a list of people and what had happened to them (dead, liver disease, etc.). It was very touching. It might have been Kerouac. Does this ring any bells for anyone?

What is the best photographer fee approach for portrait photography? Mrs. dyno04 is getting into the photography business and is trying to figure out how to best price sittings, prints, etc... We don't really like the sitting fee + price per print approach. So we are thinking about either a sitting fee + price per print + after X amount of prints receiving print release rights or sitting fee includes print release rights.
If you were going to pay someone to take pictures (she is targeting babies, families, possibly pets), what kind of fee structure would you like to see from a photographer?
