Kid is doing a presentation at school. All his friends are doing “before and after”. He wants to know what other types of contrast there are. Dad is stuck, but turns to Me-Fi for ideas. Apart from “before and after” (DIY shows, TV shopping) what else could work well?
I joined Toastmasters and I'm worried I made a horrible mistake. I would love to be able to speak naturally about my work in front of colleagues, without hemming and hawing and saying "like" and "um" and talking too fast and getting nervous and flustered. I do not want to become a motivational speaker. How do I achieve the former without ending up sounding like the latter? [more inside]

How to let people watch a talk, ask the speaker a question, and later discuss the talk with other "attendees", without attending in person unless they want to? What tech would be used, how, to best make this happen? (We need to foster community without requiring travel.) [more inside]
For several years now I have given presentations every few months. In the last three presentations, my mouth and tongue have become so dry after just a few minutes that it was impossible to continue without drinking quite a bit of water. No changes in diet or lifestyle, I'm not nervous, and there's no reason I can think of that might have caused this. Does anyone have an explanation and / or ideas to prevent this happening again? Any ideas appreciated!
Inspired by this, I'm interested in seeing what MeFites would nominate as the best thing (paper, article, book, presentation, etc.) from your field in the past 10 years or so. [more inside]
I'm teaching in large classrooms where the blackboard isn't visible from the back rows. I'd like to draw and write on slides while they are being projected. Saving the annotated slides for later distribution would be nice. I'm using a macbook and am thinking about buying a Wacom tablet. What hardware/software/technique combination works for this? About a week ago, I saw a very nicely designed site (parallax-y scrolling, a teal color scheme) where a (famous?) Web developer or engineer had collected her/his advice on giving good presentations, including thoughts on slides, handouts, timing, dealing with nerves, the q&a, etc. It was the perfect thing to send to people gearing up for a big talk, particularly in the tech field. It was recently launched, I think just in the last month -- I'd found it because someone on Twitter or Hacker News or somewhere had just linked to it. It was great and now I can't find it again. Does anyone know what I'm talking about? (Sadly almost all the salient keywords that I can think of for searching for this page are uselessly generic.) Thanks very much.
What are some good sources for layout and design ideas for professional but interesting business documents/presentations? I have access to a full Adobe Creative Suite, Thinkstock library, etc. My previous job doing these had almost no design in it, and my earlier design experience was several years ago and with a very different audience. As part of my interview process, I have been asked to kick-off a project to a pretend client. This is for an interactive agency in LA. There will be 5 people acting as stakeholders. I really want this job and want to leave an awesome impression. What things can I do to set myself apart? What are your tips for awesome kick-off meetings? I need to demonstrate my skills as a meeting facilitator and project manager. I am looking for anything that will set me apart including handing out candy / fruit, using an awesome slide deck, or simply facilitating a awesome kick-off. Have you seen anyone do something awesome in a meeting that wasn't borderline cheesy? I need to demonstrate imagination but also an ability to drive and get things done. Links or videos appreciated as well. Help me get this job!

I'm looking at software (preferably) or services for creating various types of presentations with a bit of style, and I'm a total newb. I need something that will work for business presentations, e-learning (including quizzes and tests), training videos, and sales presentations in formats that will work locally as well embedded in sites – preferably as flexible as possible. I am having real trouble recording presentations on my Windows Vista laptop. I have this killer presentation on Open Office Impress and have CamStudio and Audacity. But, Audacity keeps crashing and I can't get CamStudio to record the entire screen. When I set "Full Screen" it just records a corner of it. I am wracking my brain trying to figure out a way to make this presentation work. I also have a Flip Mino and a slideshare account but I don't want to put the presentation online as its a course audition and very rough. Suggestions???

I am trying to move from plastic transparencies in my teaching to a tablet computer. The reason I would like a tablet computer is that (in some classes) I work through problems (including circling and scribbling) with student input. An added issue is that I have a slight tremor, so I would like forgiving software or a large screen. (The iPad has too small a screen and is designed for touch, not writing.) I can use any OS. Any advice?
