Post-Cancer Gratitude Gift Suggestion

[Asking for my dear sister] I am a third-year female medical student and have recently kicked Lymphoma's ass. Needless to say, this was quite a challenging journey to take while still remaining in school and I would have been extremely hard-pressed to stay in the game without the help of a couple of core friends who were constantly there for me. Do I have to return this present?

EtiquetteFilter: A business partner's wife handed me a gift for my wife on my latest visit. Said business partner is from (and lives in) the Middle East, same goes for his wife. Their family background is muslim, though they are not really practicing it. I hardly know his wife (met her only twice) and both of them don't know my wife at all. What is the meaning of such a present? Should we give her a present in return? If so, should it be more or less costly than the one for my wife (they are wealthy, far more than I am).

Children's books with complicated pictures

For my son's 2nd birthday, I am looking for ideas for children's books with complicated pictures full of different objects. He adores Richard Scarry books where he can spend ages pointing out all the different things he can see in a scene. But I have had enough Richard Scarry for this lifetime. What other books have similarly rich, complex pictures?

Help me wrap and present delicious but frozen food.

This Christmas, I'm giving everyone the gift of delicious and healthy home-cooked meals, but I'm blanking on how to wrap and/or present them at the Christmas Eve festivities. Everything will be pre-frozen, which probably rules out putting them by the tree with the other gifts, and the only other solution I can think of is leaving them in my car and letting everyone take theirs on the way home, which is lame. There must be a better way. [more inside]

Gifts for my Conspiracy Theory Obsessed Friend!

Every year I am at a loss of what to get my best friend for Christmas. He is a man who really has everything. He likes electronic gadgets but they are usually fairly expensive, and he usually wants something very specific that he ends up buying himself. When I ask him what he wants, he hems and haws and just says, “Nothing, I don’t need anything.” [more inside]

Extra special Mother's day

I have an amazing, incredible mother. Really, she's awesome. This will be the first mother's day that I have the fiscal resources to show her, rather than just tell her, how much I love her. I'll be getting her flowers, that much is sure. In addition to that, I'd like to do something meaningful. My (boring) idea was make a donation to a cause in her honor. But you have more creative, but still meaningful ideas, right? :)
