A friend of mine is going to move to Sweden next month. I would like to give him a book with vegan/vegetarian Swedish (or Scandinavian) recipes. The book can be in English, German or Swedish. Any suggestions? PS. In relation to this question what is the best place to buy Swedish books. It seems like there is nothing like Amazon over there.
My brother and his boyfriend are getting married in two weeks. What Seattle-area experiences/meals would be appropriate for two tech-y, slightly bookish vegan gay guys in their early 30s? I'd rather give an experience (or consumables) than a thing; they probably have enough things. Budget tops out at $250ish. [more inside]
Good friends of mine are about to have their first child, a girl. What present can I get for the little one that will be both sentimental and personal, and which she can keep for her whole life? I'm currently thinking along the lines of a really nice children's book, ideally one with an Anglo-Japanese theme because dad is Japanese and mum is British - it would be nice to give something which will represent both of her inherited cultures. Any suggestions for presents with an Anglo-Japanese theme very welcome. My budget is about £30 / $50 and I'm in the UK. Thanks!

A relative of mine's great-grandmother is having her 90th birthday party this Sunday, in New Orleans. She's expressed a wish to have each of the 25-30 guests receive a small present, up to $15 each. Any suggestions? It has to be something I can obtain and wrap before Sunday afternoon.

The times when I am most content and at peace are the times that I am most able to live in the present - unattached to outcomes, not falling into "what ifs", not "writing the script", etc. I've also been at my most successful when I've had that attitude. Unfortunately, it's also pretty rare that I'm able to get there. What books, recordings, techniques, anything else help you reach that "it is what it is and it's all ok" attitude?
My boyfriend is a very spiritual devotee of Krishna (via ISKCON). Before we were dating he lived in an Ashram for a while, and has been involved with the temple since he was in early high school. I'm happily Jewish, and not personally disposed toward that sort of devotion, and I think sometimes my inability to understand comes off as skeptical or disapproving. His birthday is coming up in about a week, and I'd like to get him something, or do something for him that will demonstrate a commitment to his spirituality - or at least something that shows I'm trying. I'd love your suggestions. More details beyond the fold. [more inside]

A good friend gave The Dutchwoman and I a piece of artwork she made expressly for us as a wedding present. It was very thoughtful, but the thing is like something out of a horror movie. The missus thinks maybe the friend was trying to curse her so the friend could have me for herself...and I can't rule that out. There is no way we are going to hang it on the wall in our home. Honestly, I feel a bit uneasy just knowing it's lurking, wrapped up in a bag in the closet. But I don't want to hurt the friend's feelings. Do we just hang it up when she's coming over? That would work...until we forget to do it once. I was thinking maybe we should just burn down the house and tell her it was lost with everything else, but then she might make us a replacement. Any ideas? What's the etiquette here?

I'm looking for a UK site that I saw a while back and daftly appear not to have noted down the name. Basically, it was a gift of the month club: you bought someone a subscription, and each month it sent them something. The gifts were quirky and pretty cool; they tended to be things like one-off runs of prints etc. I can't remember the price; in my mind it was about £20 a month, but could be more than that.
