My trainer for the last year and a bit is moving to a new job. What should I get him? [more inside]
We had a baby this year (yay!); she is the first grandchild for all four of her grandparents and they are all nuts about her. For Christmas, I'd like to get my parents and in-laws something related to her. The problem is, we send photos every day so I don't want just to give them more pictures and they don't want stuff so no mugs or t-shirts with her picture. Ideas appreciated! [more inside]
I need a little inspiration, hoping you can help. My 2 nieces-in-law (?) have birthdays within 2 days of each other. After a particularly tough year in which they lost their Mum and there has been a lot of family drama, we've all become quite close. These girls mean a LOT to me and I consider them both good friends, but I need some help in deciding what "special" gift I can get for both of them for their birthdays in October. [more inside]
A couple of literary friends are getting married, and I'd like to indulge their bibliophile tendencies. What are some ideas for gifts that would make practical additions to a home library? [more inside]
What should we get our godbaby for his christening present? [more inside]
I want to spend $50 US / $70 Australian on a birthday present for a young teenager who likes drawing anime-ish figures and hasn't got arty friends or other external resources. They have an Ipad Air, but I was thinking of books, plus maybe some nicer paper and/or pens? The stuff they like drawing is mostly Gothic-like figures in formal poses, it might be good to help them branch out a bit too.
We'd like to get some thoughtful 'thank-you' presents for 3 people who helped us with our adoption last year. But we don't know them that well, don't want to give just a token, and don't want to give an impersonal gift card. [more inside]

My brother has to go to London on short notice, and his trip promises to be a long and stressful one. I'd like to give him a going-away present, but not clutter or something to haul around. He already has an Oyster card, which was my first thought. What else might be nice to have if you suddenly found yourself in London and in a rush?
My brother-in-law got naturalized on Tuesday and my wife and I want to get him a present. I'm thinking something tied to America, nice quality and perhaps something he can hang or display, though I'm flexible on that last requirement. [more inside]

Two friends, retired but very active, curious, well-educated and well-informed, are getting married this summer. They are the classic "people who have everything" tangible - art, antiques, books, fabulous garden, vacations, urban chic, rural chic, etc. [more inside]
A friend's birthday is coming up and I know something he'd really like - a pelican skull - I just have no idea how to find it. He owns a few different bones (oxen, turtle) that he has amassed during his travels and awhile back was lamenting not being able to pick up a pelican skull, which apparently has a unique shape. I have looked online, but everything I am able to find is just a replica. Is there any place online or elsewhere that I would be able to track down such a specific item?
So, I was born at a summer camp (well, in a nearby hospital, but that was where we lived when I was born). Since then, there have been 7 other kids born there, and as the oldest I'd like to give them all something as a sort of "welcome to the club" gift. But what?? Requirements inside... [more inside]

My wife is 36 weeks pregnant, and her birthday is next week. What should I get her? I'd like to get something for her rather than something baby-related. But at the same time, she has already taken advantage of many of the luxuries that pregnant women seem to appreciate -- like spa treatments, massages, and prenatal yoga. I'm a little stuck. Any good ideas? [more inside]
I need to get a Christmas present for my mom (I KNOW HOW LITTLE TIME THERE IS LEFT, THANK YOU!). I'd really like it to be related to our recent trip to Spain, ideally somehow either to the flamenco dancer Adrian Sanchez or to the Cortylandia display in Madrid. Any ideas welcome! [more inside]

I have spectacularly flaked on a friend's new baby and am now looking to buy a welcome gift for a ~9-month-old. It's also a second baby, so they'll already be overstocked with gear, clothes, toys and books. To be worthwhile, this will have to be monumentally awesome, and/or personalized to the particular baby. What should I get? [more inside]
My best friend is taking her quals in a few weeks (or comps or whatever you want to call them--the thing that makes you ABD). I thought I would send her a little present of the stress-reducing variety, but I'm kind of stuck for ideas (or way overthinking the ideas I do have). Help? What would you have wanted? [more inside]

My brother's turning 18 on Aug 30. Any thoughts on what to get, appreciated. [more inside]
Kinetic 3 is turning 15 this month and all his little heart wants is a BB gun, because he and his friends like to make war movies (or something). Every single inner instinct I have automatically says, "No. Not gonna happen, pal," because of all the obvious reasons (no guns in my house, what the hell do you need a gun for, someone's gonna lose an eye, etc.). My question is: is there any reason my kid should be allowed to get a BB gun? Am I missing something?
A friend of mine is going to move to Sweden next month. I would like to give him a book with vegan/vegetarian Swedish (or Scandinavian) recipes. The book can be in English, German or Swedish. Any suggestions? PS. In relation to this question what is the best place to buy Swedish books. It seems like there is nothing like Amazon over there.
My brother and his boyfriend are getting married in two weeks. What Seattle-area experiences/meals would be appropriate for two tech-y, slightly bookish vegan gay guys in their early 30s? I'd rather give an experience (or consumables) than a thing; they probably have enough things. Budget tops out at $250ish. [more inside]
Good friends of mine are about to have their first child, a girl. What present can I get for the little one that will be both sentimental and personal, and which she can keep for her whole life? I'm currently thinking along the lines of a really nice children's book, ideally one with an Anglo-Japanese theme because dad is Japanese and mum is British - it would be nice to give something which will represent both of her inherited cultures. Any suggestions for presents with an Anglo-Japanese theme very welcome. My budget is about £30 / $50 and I'm in the UK. Thanks!
