I recently saw an article by some docs on Oprah that give recommendations about taking care of your skin at certain ages.
It says that in your forties and fifties most people need Renova or retinol.
I have mild rosacea and dry fair skin and am 48.
Do you think I should see a dermatologist to get a prescription or just use an over the counter product with retinol.
I do not want to waste my money on an over the counter product if my 48 year old skin would benefit by the prescription.
I have lines and dullish dry skin with a few age spots.
Thanks.

Today's eye exam for this 40-something woman (a multifocal contact lenses wearer) showed a slight improvement in myopia versus what another optometrist recorded two years ago. My new optometrist was very thorough, caught some retinal thinning and other issues my previous optometrist had missed, and just seemed very sharp and trustworthy. But should I worry about the decreased myopia values and get my eyes checked again? [more inside]

I recently increased my dosage of lamictal from 100mg/day to 200mg/day. I was prescribed 100mg pills, whereas before I had 25mg pills. For a month's supply of 100mg/daily in 25mg units, the bill sent to my insurance was over $500. For 200mg in 100mg units, it was just under $300.
Why would more of the active ingredient cost less? I know the difference in pill count can't account for that much of a differential. What's the creative economics here?

Where can I find, preferably online, really obscure prescription drugs for sale without being "in" with a doctor? Specifically, I'm looking for Nizoral (ketoconazole) in either scalp fluid (I can only find Italian references) or foam (might only be in clinical trials).
Generally, I'm sure there must be message boards for this kind of thing. A few years back, I had access to a private one with pretty good traffic, but it appears to be defunct now. Anyone have any good references they might be willing to share? [more inside]

How have Mefites' experiences of modafinil been? I don't suffer from narcolepsy, although I do tend to get my circadian clock askew. Mostly, I'm interested in the nootropic aspects. Can I get a prescription? Or without one? I'm in the US, and without insurance. If not, how does adrafinil compare?

OnlinePharmacyFilter: I am interested in buying a certain pharmaceutical for my own off-label use (which is known to be safe and effective). I would rather not deal with a doctor to obtain a prescription -- I don't at the moment have a primary care provider I trust -- and this drug appears to be readily available at any number of Web pharmacies, with few questions asked. Does anyone have experience with online drug sellers? Are these vendors reliable at all? I am skeptical, of course, and do wonder whether I'll end up with a bottle of sugar pills, or worse. (I saw a recent news report, on 60 Minutes, I think, about the global market in fake products, including brand name drugs, in which a fugazy Viagra pill made in China was shown to be indistinguishable from the real thing.) (On the other hand, CVS-bought, doctor-prescribed brand name drugs are not necessarily to be trusted either. And Vioxx is, I'm sure, just the tip of that industry iceberg. Nonetheless...) Am I crazy to buy drugs on the Web?
(Heck, it sue has been a long time since High School, when it never would have occurred to me to ask what was in the drugs I was taking, where they were from, or if they were "safe" or "pure"...)

OnlinePharmacyFilter: My doctor has prescribed a drug that my insurance will not cover. I can purchase a one-month supply of the drug for full-price from my local pharmacy for about $300. It seems I can purchase a generic version of the drug online for about $100 (without a prescription, even). [MI]

It's all the cat's fault. I have cat allergies and the only thing that's worked so far is Zyrtec. Great, only the problem is that my insurance company thinks that a fair co-pay for this particular miracle drug is $35 for a month's supply. A quick Google search turned up a lot of (supposedly) Canadian companies willing to sell me branded and generic Zyrtec at much lower prices. My question: is it safe to order prescription drugs -- assuming you've actually been prescribed them by your doctor, which I was -- through online Canadian sources?

Online contact lenses. For the past year or two, I have been ordering contact lenses online. I've never been asked for a doctor's prescription before. Now it seems no site will allow me to order contact lenses without a doctor's prescription. What happened? The doctor who I saw for my contact lenses, I've long since forgotten his name. I just got a eyeglass checkup but skipped the contact lens because mine are working fine, and are cheaper online. Is there a canadien or foreign contact lens company someone can recommend that doesn't require a prescription?
