Is there a psychological term for this? You like/dislike certain names, traits, or appearances in people, then you go on to have positive or negative associations with those traits, favor/disfavor those names/traits/appearances with individuals you don't know, in the future. [more inside]

I recently had to do an Archive and Install of Leopard on my Macbook, due to the fact that it suddenly got stuck on a blue screen (the irony) on boot. Now, everything seems fine, except for the fact that some of my preferences don't "stick," so, for example, each time I tell the OS to open .doc files with Pages, it works for a day or so, but then, .doc files start automatically opening with TextEdit. I have a keyboard question. Is there a way in WinXP to change the definition of individual keys? My new computer has a keyboard layout that is subtly different from the old one which results in a smaller space bar and as a result I regularly hit the Alt key by mistake which pops up a menu and often leads to loss of text I've typed. Is there anyway to change another key to Alt and make the Alt key give me a space?

Why does a person's musical taste keep changing? I'm suddenly listening to lot's of Paris Cafe music, the likes of Charles Trenet, Edith Piaf and Josephine Baker. How did that happen? Why do some people's tastes never seem to change?
