It's electric.

I wish to adapt. I have this zappy shocky thing, which works with either 9V batteries or a wall adapter. Unfortunately, even with good 9V batteries it does not last very long, and the wall adapter does not charge any rechargable batteries in the unit. I would like to use something like external phone batteries to keep it active for longer periods of time when not near a wall outlet. [more inside]

Should I fix/replace this Apple Power Adapter cord?

Having successfully pried open my 85W PA-1850-02 Magsafe brick in order to fix (or possibly replace) the power cord, it doesn't look like the various repair tutorials/videos: the inside is full of a kind of white mastic/gunk. Is this perhaps melted plastic (from too much charging heat)? Is this a situation where the only (or the wiser) option is to shell out for a new brick?

Is my new (aftermarket) power adapter safe for my laptop?

Can I damage my laptop by using a power adapter that has a slightly higher wattage than the original adapter? The original adapter was 65W, and the aftermarket one is 70W. The voltage is switchable. My original adapter had a voltage of 18.5V, this one says that if I need 18.5V, I should choose 18V. Any chance of damaging the computer by using this one? [more inside]

Power adapter voltage question.

I need a 6V positive-tip power adapter for a USB hub. I have a bag full of old adapters of varying voltages. I know the 6V means that it should not exceed the 6 volts, but can I use a lesser-volt adapter?

Replacing battery on Dell Inspiron 4000 causes problem with power adapter; any ideas?

I recently replaced the battery in my old Dell Inspiron 4000. Today I noticed that the led on the power adapter goes off if the battery is in the machine and the machine says it is running on batteries. If I unplug the battery the computer turns off. I am able to boot on AC power but the moment I insert the battery the adapter stops working. I think this is new otherwise the battery would've drained days ago. Has anyone encountered this before? Any ideas? Also, if the computer is off and I plug the adapter into it while the battery is also present, the led on the adapter goes out. If I then remove the battery and attempt to boot the machine, nothing happens. This is very weird. [more inside]
