Where is this powder coming from?

What is the name of the technology that produces powder (that verifies authenticity, I suppose) when you bend a drivers license or other ID card? My friend has a New York Drivers License (maybe not the newest one, but still pretty new). If you bend the license, it releases a kind of powder, presumably to verify its authenticity. I'm really curious about the technology (and not because I'm trying to make a fake ID, it is just an interesting technique), and I'm having a hard time googling for more info. Does anyone know what this security technique is called? What other states use it? Where I can find out more?

my powdered milk cup overfloweth

what the hell do i do with three pounds of whole-fat dried milk? so, someone at work was throwing away a whole bunch of whole-fat dry milk, originally a sample from a company but not needed anymore.

well, gosh darn it, i thought, what a shame! modern-recession-frugality dictates this need not to go waste! so i brought a big ol'bag of dried milk home. i realized halfway through the bike ride home i have NO IDEA what to do with dried milk. it has been sitting in the fridge for a couple of days now.

Google brings up a lot of lame things, like "add to hot chocolate". LAME. i am also not really interested in drinking powdered milk straight up.

so, mefites, help a sister out! do not let this rescue mission go south!

what are the most awesome things I can achieve with this dried milk?

do you have delicious and tasty recipes that use a lot of dried milk? what about potentially mind-blowing baked goods? art projects? 1980s-yuppie-coke-themed party? that home-made playdough stuff that hippie parents make? i like edible things the best.

(also, the fact that it is supposed to be used for large-scale food processing - relevant?)

In period dramas, I have seen characters, once finished writing a letter in longhand, blow a powder across the surface to make the ink dry faster. What was this substance? If it's an ordinary powder like flour or talc, I want to start using it. I'm having a problem with smearing ink lately at work.

how to stop a powder from clumping and clogging a dispenser in a wet enviroment

how do I dispense a very hygroscopic powder in a very moist environment without causing clumping in the remaining powder and without clogging the dispenser? I have what is called a "unit bath". This means that the sink, mirror, shower, and bath are all in one enclosed waterproof room. I shave while I am taking a shower. I use powdered shaving soap to make lather. I have been keeping the powdered soap in a talcum powder squeeze bottle but even with the top slid in the closed position the very hygroscopic power clumps and becomes impossible to dispense after about a week of use. I have tried only keeping a weeks worth of powder in the dispenser but the wall of the container becomes gummy and cleaning it is very time consuming. what would be the best way to dispense the powder and still be able to store it in the shower? container ideas?

Recommendations for quality powdered vitamins and caffeine?

Any ideas on a good online (or possibly otherwise) distributor of high quality raw vitamin/mineral powder? I'm looking specifically for high quality raw powdered B vitamins and caffeine for a homemade energy drink. I'm concerned with quality, so even advise on what sort of standards/certifications I should look for would be a lot of help.

POW! POWer POWders for my Smoothies!

What can I add to my smoothies to get some bonus health benefits? I recently got a Magic Bullet because I looove smoothies, but I haaate overpaying for them.

Meanwhile, I'm on a health kick, and desperately eager to lose some weight in the next month. This is mainly through better portion control, smarter food decisions, and increased exercise.

Bringing it together: What powders can I buy to add to my daily smoothie? I hear and read about protein powders, vitamin powders, etc. etc., but don't know where to look for what. I just figure I have the opportunity to healthify my drinks, so I may as well.

Some things about me:
I don't eat enough veggies or healthy foods. I am about 15 lbs. heavier than I'd like to be. I'm 24. I'm more generally sedentary than active. I'm male. I'm paunchy, but want to be muscley. I'm balding too early.

Some things about my smoothies:
I usually throw in some combination of -- fresca, OJ, grape juice, ice, frozen strawberries, frozen raspberries, lemon juice, lime juice, sorbet, ice, Crystal Ice lemonade, and more ice. (But not more than two or three of the above at a time, the list is just my arsenal).

I'm intrigued by the protein powder idea. Because it seems people who drink them are ripped. But I assume there's some other steps involved. Where should I begin?

Painting my garage..

Garage-floor repainting.. After etching the old surface, how do I rid of the fine powder? This is my first time painting my garage floor. My old car leaked a lot of oil and now that I have a new car, I'd like to get the garage looking new again.

What I have

Degreaser/Cleaner
Concrete Etcher/Acid.
Primer
Paint

They go on in that order. However, after etching the concrete, there is a fine powdery residue. The instructions say if there is powder, re-etch with a diluted solution. I've done that ... three times now. I've tried my best while it is wet to scrub the solution out while spraying with the hose. (The 3rd time I rinsed for 30 minutes straight).

Every time there is a fine powder left. How do I get rid of it so I can prime the surface? I've tried sweeping it, vacuuming it, its still there.

Please help.. I want to get this done right, and I am left without my garage.

Ski Vacation booking - acommodation recommendations?

Where’s the best place to book an all-inclusive ski vacation? Where’s a good powder accessible condo with a view/hottub? Wanted: Place where we can get powder (CO, UT, WY or BC) for the week of 9-17 March and that has some nightlife.

Travelocity, expedia, preliminary standard google searches no good. All give hotels in metropolitan areas or incredibly overpriced ski packages. We’d like to pay ca. $1200 each for flight, lodge and lift ticket for ca 6.days – we’re coming from NYC.

We’d like a condo (pref ski-in ski-out….although a hotel isn’t out of the question), with access to a hottub and access to a nice view. If you just know the answer to this, that’d be great.

We’d like to get some kind of discount for booking flight+lift ticket+accommodation in one go, although if you think that’s a bad idea and you know of a particular steal for pairs or single examples of F/LT/A then let me know too….. Preferably a website/company with which you’ve had good experiences.

And a pony. Yes a ski pony. OK No pony wanted

Can protein powder go off?

A while ago I bought some protein powder; work and study conspired against me and it never got used. The best before date is February. My question is will the expiry of the best before date make it any less effective? Is it possible for it to go off?
