Visual database browser?

Is there a visual, gui database browser that would let me select a data field and show value of data field in a different table that is referenced by first data field? I need this to look at PostgreSQL database. Basically I need something that can be accomplished with Views in psql but it would be nice to create it on the fly just by clicking on a field of data.

MySQL vs PostgreSQL?

What's the hive mind's opinion on MySQL vs PostgreSQL? In a web dev shop, rebuilding the platform. It seems like at MySQL 5.2, the differences have become rather negligible, but I am still interested in your experiences. Currently we're using MySQL (5.0 though), but I've always heard wonderful things about Postgres's robustness and speed.

Everything I find on google for 'mysql vs postgresql' seems to date bate to 2003.

Blog software that supports PostgreSQL

I'm interested in moving away from Moveable Type for my blog. Unfortunately, the only DBMS my webhost provides is PostgreSQL. Wordpress doesn't support it. Blosxom seems promising, but I'm behind a firewall and proxy at work, so web-based management is a must. I'm very technical; enough so that I'm considering writing my own blog CMS, and only the time investment is holding me back. What are my options? What do you recommend?

A better tool that pgAdmin?

What's a good, free database designing/administrating tool which works with postgresql? I've been using pgAdmin III, and while that does the basics, it doesn't have useful features like a buffer of previous queries and their results. I want something similar to pgAdmin but with more convenience features. The ability to save queries in a buffer so that they can be edited and re-run is key.

I'm more concerned with a flexible way to design the database (create schema and experiment, and edit procedures and views) than with administration or data manipulation.

Your recommendations?

Beginner level PHP / mySQL project tutorials

GeekLearningFilter: I need to learn how to do some fun stuff with php and MySQL or PostgreSQL. Of course I shall expand on this within... Basically, I need to take demographic data (names, addresses, birthdates, etc.) in via a webform, put it into a database (I already know basically how to do this) and then extract some of that info into web pages in alpha order and divided along the lines of an address book.

Can the MeFi Geek Brigade point me toward favorite tutorials/how-to guides and other php+database fu learning sites that can move me toward my goal of making this happen without hiring someone?

DB Interfaces and the comparison thereof

I'm looking at database packages and wondering if anyone has had first-hand experience with direct interfaces for PostgreSQL, SQLite, BerkeleyDB or MySQL, either of the command-line variety or via a web-based GUI? I'm very familiar with phpMyAdmin but that's where my experience stops. How might the above compare with phpMyAdmin?

Mind you, I already understand the features/benefits/drawbacks of the databases themselves. It's the interfaces (especially web-based) that I'm interested in.

Photoshop Gradients

Photoshop gurus: I've got a rectangular photo, which I plop down in the middle of a colored background. I'd like to create a smooth transparency gradient in the photo with respect to the background (more transparent at the top, opaque at the bottom). How would one do this?

(Specifically, I'm contructing a header image for a website... the top of the header is a solid color, with logo, etc. in it, while the bottom of the header is the photo. I'd like the solid area to dissolve into the photo).

Thanks- if anyone ever needs PHP/Postgresql advice, let me know!
