I don't just mean in a taxonomic way, but in terms of sorting and ease for the handlers -- is the postal code the most vital part? What's that last line for? [more inside]
I'm looking for a service that will, say, receive/collect UK/European packages purchased on eBay, arrange international shipping to the US, and send them to me. These would be for auctions where international shipping isn't an option. So, if it's a UK auction, I'd be looking for a UK service that could accept the package on my behalf and forward it to me. I know this service exists, but what should I be googling to find it? Is it courier shipping? Does anyone have any recommendations for particular companies/individuals who offer this service?
Need to fill out a request with the USPS to find a missing package and need a description, but I have no idea what a "China Air Post Postal Packet" looks like and my friend isn't really sure either. [more inside]

A few weeks ago, a package was sent to my apartment from someone I didn't know in Chicago ( I live in California) They had my full name and address and I had never heard of their name. The package contained one cheap hairbrush with the tag still on. I assumed it was a mistake and forgot about it. There was no note. [more inside]
U.S. to Switzerland by regular first class mail: in your experience, has that ever taken longer than 12 business days? (Item in question would be a flat 9x12" envelope, papers only, zero customs value, from east coast U.S.)
What's the fastest and second fastest available service (how long does it take and how much does it cost) for Chinese postal service's EMS express mail service for mailing an ordinary document (2 pages) from Shanghai to London? Thank you very much for any help - I was having trouble finding this online (trying to compare it with DHL/FedEx/UPS ) Thanks!
Does anyone know a reliable, cost-effective mail forwarding service so I can get my ebay stuff and hot chocolate delivered without pissing my friends/family off? [more inside]
I have a bunch of postcards I'm mailing out from within the US to people in the US, UK and Switzerland. I can put domestic stamps on the cards sent from within the US to our US address, so that the recipients can just drop it in a mailbox. Does the USPS or another entity within the US sell stamps that I can put on the postcards sent from the UK and Switzerland, such that the recipients don't need to buy their own stamps?
I want to send a postcard from France to this restaurant in Japan where my friend is a cook. There appears to be an address on the front page of the website, but I'll be damned if I can make out what it says, much less recreate it on a postcard in a way that the French post can parse. I'm sure I could ask him myself, but I would prefer to surprise him. Can anyone help me with this?
I want to change the world. Or at least make it easier/faster/cheaper to send my niece and nephew, currently living less than 500 miles from where I live, a flipping Christmas package. Who should I bother to help get this done? [more inside]
Looking at the Universal Postal Union pages on the matter, addresses on envelopes are usually right-justified and appear below the stamp. Why is this the case. Also, are the UK and Ireland the only exceptions?
I need to mail approximately $1,000 worth of euros from WA to NY. We received it from our bank through FedEx, but FedEx refused to accept the shipment when I tried to send it and said that the bank must have had third party insurance. Canada Post: Since the back to work legislation, Canada Post seems to be rationing my mail. What I mean is, since they resumed mail delivery, my house has not gotten more than two letters a day. My neighbors have said similar things about their mail deliveries, no one is getting more than the lightest trickle of mail. I'm waiting on a number of items that I know have been in their system for a month... What's going on? [more inside]
Someone apparently opened a package in my mailbox and stole the mp4 player I had ordered from e-bay. There was no indication on the mailing envelope what the contents were: The person must have felt the package and guessed what it contained. They left the ripped open package on our porch, along with some other mail, and two Netflix envelopes, ripped open also, for a person further up the street. What do we do about this?

What is the cheapest way to mail a single pencil to someone? I'm talking US domestic to US domestic address. An ideal solution wouldn't require a trip to the post office (although the first one I send probably would be through a desk clerk to make sure it's ok). A good friend of mine uses the application BULK MAILER+ to maintain an address list for an academic organization. He uses various flags in the notes field to sort addresses by membership year, indicate specific officers of the organization, whether or not they organize sessions at each year's annual meeting, etc. However, now he's on OSX and we're wondering if the only option is to run the app in Classic (Satori Software seems to have no intention of creating an OSX version) - or is there something else he should be using?
