I am considering renting a car for good portion of an upcoming two-week trip to Portugal and possibly Spain. I have never rented a car or driven outside North America. I have some questions about this. [more inside]

I need a 20 euro money order to get some documents from Portugal. How can I get this in the United States? [more inside]
(1) We have about 20 days to spend in between Barcelona and Lisbon (2) We can get anywhere but won't have a car once we're there...no license (3) We want coastal, but not built up like Barcelona (or even like Italian/French Riviera) (4) Our budget is somewhat flexible (ballpark of $200/nite), but it's more about the feel of the area [more inside]
I live in an area with a significant Portuguese population (Rhode Island - southeastern Massachusetts), and I am currently visiting Lisbon. However, I have never seen the type of roast chicken advertised as "Portuguese chicken" anywhere other than Toronto. Okay, the Portuguese restaurants in my home area will serve you chicken, but they're not especially known for it. Is it just me, or does there not even seem to be that much roast chicken in Lisbon? (Delicious cuisine overall, though - especially the seafood!) [more inside]
Searching "direct flights" from Boston to Lisbon turns up vague references and a Boston Globe article from two years ago (http://www.boston.com/travel/blog/2013/04/new_flights_bet.html). I know some people who have flown this route in the past, but neither Google Flights nor any other travel site can actually show those flights. Was this route discontinued? Does any other airline still fly BOS-LIS direct?
My wife and I are flying to Portugal this summer (last 2 weeks of July), and plan to travel by car from Faro in the south to Porto in the north. We have a couple of weeks and want to get a feel for the country which we know very little about. Any general or specific ideas on what we should see, what we should avoid, etc. [more inside]
My grandfather was born in Portugal. My brother is really interested in getting a Portuguese passport. We know my grandfather's full name, date of birth, and city of birth (Lisbon). We do not have his birth certificate which we are trying to order. To get his birth certificate, we need the names of his parents and their date of marriage. How can we most easily find this information OR is there a way to get the birth certificate knowing just full name, date of birth, and place of birth? [more inside]

This is a question about the return of hundreds of thousands of Portuguese colonists to Portugal after the African colonies became independent and the politics thereof. [more inside]
My family is taking a trip to Lisbon in May! We are very excited. What present can I get my mother to make this trip even better for her? Looking especially for specific tours or tickets although other ideas will be considered. [more inside]
At the very last minute, my mother has decided to take a trip from Aberdeen to Spain and Portugal. Ideally, she'd leave sometime this weekend or on Monday/Tuesday and spend a few days in each country - it doesn't matter much where in each country. UK-ers, any tips for agents or websites we can use to find reasonable flights? We were thinking of AirBnB for accommodations, but if you know of anything cheaper or easier, I'll take those recs too.
Mr. TEA, preschooler TEA, and I are going from our home in the U.S. to the Algarve next month to visit family for a few weeks. This will be the first trip out of the U.S. for our preschooler, and the first trip back in a long while for us adults. What advice can you give us about how to help our preschooler prepare for the trip? About what to do as a family while we're there? About traveling with kids in the Algarve?
I'm going to a conference in Lisbon in mid-July, but my partner and I are flying to Portugal 5 days early to check it out. We've never been before, and we'd like to explore somewhere other than Lisbon during that time--2 other towns at most. Which should we choose? [more inside]
Which cities are a must? [more inside]
My extended family is trying to put together a trip to someplace interesting, warm and beach-y, to occur around New Year's. For a variety of complicated reasons related to where people will be traveling from, the Middle East, North Africa and far southern Europe are the most feasible destinations. Where should we consider going? [more inside]
I was recently in a small village cemetery in Portugal. In the cemetery there was a wall with coffins interred on shelves, with a modern lockable double glazed door over each vault so that you could look in at the contents. [more inside]
We're headed to Brussels in March, and we're looking at flight prices. We know it's a bit early, but we're trying to spot any deals and grab them. We saw a flight to Brussels with a layover in Porto, Portugal, and the one on way home is 20+ hours (landing around 4pm and taking off at 11:30am the next day). Could we get a good stay in Porto, Portugal out of those 20 hours? What's there to do? Will we get by without knowing the language? [more inside]
We have ten days to explore the Douro Valley in northern Portugal, seeking any recommendations for good places to visit, stay, eat. [more inside]

A friend is interested in renting a house or flat for a couple of weeks in late July or August in Lagos, Portugal. Recommendations for reputable agencies to go through/web listings/anything else that might help them find a nice place?
Tell me about the weirdest, most magical, fantastical places in Spain. Places that have ghostly apparitions, spirit-sightings, woo-woo lines of crystal power or tombs of mad saints. Spooky forests, castles, places hippies flock to. Places where the guide books start the descriptions with "legend has it..." Fairy tale towns. Roman ruins. You get the idea. Places in Portugal welcomed as well. (Going for two weeks at the end of May. Delicious food & scenery is great, but I'm really looking to spark my imagination.)
I'm a dual Portuguese - Canadian citizen, living and working in Canada. Can I travel to the USA for a business trip on a Portuguese passport? [more inside]
Rootsy, Brazilian music in an Brazilian Expat bar in Lisbon, Portugal. What kind of music were they playing?
I was in Lisbon a few months ago and found 2 Brazilian “ex-pat” type bars with INCREDIBLE live music. I want to know what type it was. I believe it was in Barrio Alto, the big street for nightlife, but these bars really didn’t seem very touristy. I think I stumbled onto some kind of subculture. [more inside]
I'm an American with a current California driver's license. I've been living in the UK for over a year, so I can't drive here without getting a UK license. I'm going to Portugal next month. Can I legally drive there? [more inside]
Tugafi: where in South London should i go to watch the Portugal/Spain game tomorrow? I'd like to watch in a Portuguese place, not a Spanish one. There are 30,000 Portuguese in South London, I think mainly around Vauxhall, Brixton, Stockwell. I know there are a bunch of restaurants on South Lambeth Road, but not sure how good they'll be for the football. We'll hopefully be between 5 and 10 people. Suggestions?
Looking for suggestions on must sees as we drive from Lisbon, Portugal to Sagres, Portugal next week. We aren't committed to either the highway further inland or the coastline. Suggestions? [more inside]

How can my family and I (including 3 children) travel to Europe for at a reasonable cost next summer? Of course, there is [more inside]

I'm planning a trip to Portugal/Spain for late July/early August. Could use some tips/suggestions on locations/travel, etc... [more inside]
Wife, 4 yr old and self want to explore Portugal for 8-10 days in mid July. Would appreciate your recommendations for eats, drinks, beaches, places to stay and mode of transport. Our budget is in the range of U$200 - $250 per day. One attractive option is to hire a camper van, though that would chew most of our daily budget. Thanks!
