Tell me about the weirdest, most magical, fantastical places in Spain. Places that have ghostly apparitions, spirit-sightings, woo-woo lines of crystal power or tombs of mad saints. Spooky forests, castles, places hippies flock to. Places where the guide books start the descriptions with "legend has it..." Fairy tale towns. Roman ruins. You get the idea. Places in Portugal welcomed as well.
(Going for two weeks at the end of May. Delicious food & scenery is great, but I'm really looking to spark my imagination.)

I was in Lisbon a few months ago and found 2 Brazilian “ex-pat” type bars with INCREDIBLE live music. I want to know what type it was. I believe it was in Barrio Alto, the big street for nightlife, but these bars really didn’t seem very touristy. I think I stumbled onto some kind of subculture.

Tugafi: where in South London should i go to watch the Portugal/Spain game tomorrow? I'd like to watch in a Portuguese place, not a Spanish one. There are 30,000 Portuguese in South London, I think mainly around Vauxhall, Brixton, Stockwell. I know there are a bunch of restaurants on South Lambeth Road, but not sure how good they'll be for the football. We'll hopefully be between 5 and 10 people. Suggestions?

My parents will be traveling to Lisbon, Portugal in the coming months and would like suggestions for books to read before their trip. We were talking about this and were trying to come up for the equivalent set of books for someone visiting New York as well. What should they read?

How can my family and I (including 3 children) travel to Europe for at a reasonable cost next summer? We are open to flying into pretty much anywhere in Europe, as I think we can travel within Europe pretty cheaply once we get there-it's the cost of getting there from the West Coast of the US that has me worried. Of course, there is

Wife, 4 yr old and self want to explore Portugal for 8-10 days in mid July. Would appreciate your recommendations for eats, drinks, beaches, places to stay and mode of transport. Our budget is in the range of U$200 - $250 per day. One attractive option is to hire a camper van, though that would chew most of our daily budget. Thanks!

I was surprised to learn that some EU countries will allow applications for citizenship based on decent for grandchildren and sometimes great-grandchildren of citizens. I'm having trouble tracking down whether this is the case in Portugal (and whether I would be eligible). Can anyone point me in the right direction?

CardosaFilter. I'm looking for a specific modern portugese poem which refers to the Algarve as a "rusted Scimitar" (Algarve possibly being Portugese for Scimitar). English translations of this poem do exist (I've seen them), but *any* information would be excellent. I think the poem talks about the destruction of Portugal by tourism.
