I need to create a simple portal with links to our own content, which will consist mostly of text documents--hand outs for people who don't speak English as a native language. Should I use a CMS or just build it by hand? [more inside]

I am reminded of Google retiring GReader... the way that it changed my online life and the uproar that came along with it. Except this time there is no uproar or teams of companies try to market their competitive offerings to me. Where do I go now? [more inside]
I remember the phrase "We do what we can because we must" from watching TV as a child in the 70s. This phrase was comically reversed in the Portal soundtrack, which generated a meme and rendered it ungooglable. What was the source of the original phrase?
I am setting up a website for an online research community. I want to be able to host internal and external documents, audio/video, allow collaborative editing, manage mailing lists and help members of the site find others with similar interests. I don't have a lot of money. Open source software would be ideal. [more inside]
I'm looking for games available for the PlayStation 3 with (fully clothed, not overtly sexualized) female protagonists, or protagonists of unspecified gender. Ideally, the games would also be non-violent or minimally violent, and they would rely largely on puzzle-solving rather than time-sensitive and reflex-dependent jump-and-shoot strategies. I have been tasked with finding a web solution for a volunteer group associated with a university. There are already pages on one of the departments' websites, however, it will be months before any changes can be made to that as it's under the rule of a CMS which is about to be migrated and to which we won't be able to really do anything until November. We want all the usual stuff like a blog and a Twitter widget and latest news and yadda yadda, but anything we add - and possibly anything we remove - would have to wait till November if we use the existing hosting arrangement. This is why I want to stick up another web infrastructure for us somewhere else, probably not hosted by the university. [more inside]

I work for an advertising company that sells very high profile ad locations. One of the ways we demonstrate value to our advertisers is collecting and showing them examples of their ads appearing incidentally in TV, film, newspapers, etc. I would like to create an online portal for displaying a rolling chronological archive of these video clips and still images. I have been filled with an overwhelming desire to decorate my concrete loft as a level in Portal. While the Valve store was awesome for some artwork, I really want to have a personalized instruction guide for my level (see example here). I'm not a graphic designer, and I don't want to spend a fortune on this, but it's well outside my capabilities- particularly since I'd like to have it large enough to make an impact. So, my questions are 1) how do I find someone who can design this for me? and 2) am I going to run into copyright issues commissioning someone to do this?

I recently purchased an HDTV (Vizio VX37L 37" LCD; 768p) and an Xbox 360 (Elite); am I getting the image quality I should be getting? Specifically, there seems to be far less antialiasing going on than I'd expect; "jaggies" are obvious from across the room. The 360 is connected to the TV via HDMI, and the 360 is outputting 720p.
