I haven't watched The Simpsons regularly since about season 12 or 13, but in those episodes I did happen to catch on TV, I have never seen them directly attack President Bush. I do remember back in the 'golden age' they used to regularly poke fun at Clinton (to name but one example, Clinton playing the sax and Moe telling him to "get back to work"). I'm wondering if regular watchers of The Simpsons can point me to episodes from season 13 onwards where they did directly parody or attack Bush.

Did the President's Advisory Panel on Tax Reform radically change their plans at the last minute? I read through the first few chapters of their report (released November 1), and then googled to try to find some independent analysis. Several of the top links are angry articles from around October 14, talking about how the panel is going to recommend nothing more than a couple of minor tweaks to programs to pay for repealing the AMT, and won't "seek a wholesale reform of our tax code." But the report that came out on November 1 seems to recommend drastic changes, essentially throwing out most of the existing tax code and rewriting it from scratch. (Not that that's a bad thing.) What happened between October 14 and November 1?

I really want to understand: Why did you vote for Bush? Not snark at all -- a sincere question. I voted for Kerry. 51% of the people in this country think differently than I do and I'd like to try to get past my usual filters and biases and hear your point of view. Debating politics with a (conservative) friend last night, we got to talking about the whole "mission acomplished" thing. He has challenged me to come up with a single quote where Bush says anything similar to "Our mission in Iraq has been accomplished" (as opposed to just standing in front of a sign that says it). Excuse my naiveté: is Bush vs. Kerry the first modern presidential contest between two members of the American equivalent of the aristocracy? Call them patricians, preppies, rich kids, "old money", members of the upper or property-owning class; whatever. What does this mean, if anything? It looks significant seen from old Europe. [Given that Kerry is, like the Kennedys, a Catholic, I suppose WASPs no longer mean much in this respect.]
