In personal experience, many programs notionally or popularly perceived to be aimed or benefiting primarily minorities end up making me (white dude) better off as well, e.g. Section 8 housing assistance. I'm trying to identify data and research sources that either support or diminish this claim. [more inside]
I started volunteering for a group that advocates for a revenue neutral carbon tax. Their main strategies for trying to achieve this goal are: 1) develop relationships with members of congress ("we're betting the ranch on relationships" is one of their unofficial slogans) 2) write letters to the editor and 3) get lots of people to write letters to their congressmen. Is this an effective approach? If not what else could we be doing? Thanks everybody and happy Earth Day! [more inside]

Where can I find a concise health insurance reform argument-counterargument-countercounterargument talking point "tree"? e.g. my congressman, TM(R) says "you should be able to buy insurance from out of state..."; but Ezra Klein says that would yield a Race to the Bottom, like with credit card cos. TM says "...like we already do with auto insurance"; but an E.K. commenter says that with car insurance, the insurer must obey the insuree's state regs. (is this true?) So, do all of these exist in a boiled-down form somewhere? Basically, I'm looking for a site that sheds light on health insurance talking points the way skepticalscience.com does for climate.
