Love Polar HRM with footpod..envy Garmin Forerunner...help.

Without going ahead and junking my existing Polar system for a Garmin 305 or 405, is there any relatively small GPS unit I could clip onto my mp3 player armband to add the functionality I'd like (uploading routes to a Sportracks, motionbased, trainingpeaks like service...with the added benefit that I'd have something to take on a hike or go geocaching? I already have a great heart rate monitor (HRM) with foot pod, the Polar RS400. I'd love to add some sort of GPS tracking capabilities to my more free-form runs (random runs when travelling or even in my own area). I don't want to dump my Polar system because #1) it works great #2) the foot pod is superaccurate outdoors and on the treadmill, and #3) it was expensive.

Any Polar lovers who have Garmin-GPSing envy like I do? Any homebrew solution I'm not thinking of?

Help me remember this movie...

I'm trying to remember what the title of this movie was. I think it was made in the 1960's or 1970's in the U.S. I remember watching it on TV on the Sunday Matinee show in the 1980's. The plot involved this millionaire who wanted to attack the Soviet Union, he had a small force which was to attack Russia by driving trucks across the polar ice cap. All I can remember was that in the end of the film his plan is thwarted by the Soviets, who send planes to bomb the ice, and the trucks sink to the bottom of the ocean. Any ideas?

GPS, accelerometer pods or something else for running?

I’m training for a marathon and I’m looking for a training tool to keep track of my progress and to keep me motivated. Should I go with GPS, accelerometer pods or something else? I plan to run 4 day/week in the next 4 months. I’d like to know my pace while running and keep track of my daily/weekly/monthly mileage. I plan to train on both open roads and on trails. Anyone has experience with GPS based devices (Garmin Forerunner) and accelerometer based devices (Polar RS200sd and others)? Am I missing an option? I’m not interested in the nike+ipod thing.

Polar Plunge: Help me keep my pride.

I've signed up for the Polar Plunge to support the Special Olympics in our area.... It's been really chilly out (Michigan) and was wondering how can I prepare for this? Any pointers for those that have done a polar dip before? If I raise enough money I will performing in a speedo. *Gulp* any tips how to minimize shrinkage or at least keep my dignity (or is that even possible in a speedo)? I believe I need to remain in the water for 10 minutes.

name that children's book

looking for the title and author of a children's book about a polar bear. i don't remember the specifics of the story except for the fact that it ends, approximately, with the line:

"polar bear, underwear."

what i remember of the story is that the polar bear is on is way to the shower and involves him stripping down to his "polar bear underwear."
i remember the artwork being somewhat strange.
