I have seen a podiatrist and have been diagnosed with hallux limitus. I wore an aircast for about 6 weeks starting in December, and felt improvement upon my return visit, but my doctor warned that it was likely my original pain would return and it has. I understand it will get worse with age. The doctor recommended custom orthotics, and told me to schedule a follow-up to get the mold made if I decided to pursue that course. Before I do, I want to understand a little more about what this means and how it will help.

Would it be better for me to see a foot specialist and (most likely) get custom orthodics in Canada or the U.S.A.?

A couple of months ago my big toenail went black after a run. Maybe 10-15 days ago it came loose, but only on one side. Since the other side was still anchored I cut off the flapping half. Nothing's happened since then. Please advise.

I need to fix my feet. For as long I can remember, my feet have stuck out (supination.) I have super-high arches - you can barely see the inside portion of my feet on a foot print. I find it nearly impossible to hold my feet together parallel and flat (inner heel to inner heel, big toe to big toe) - they rotate upward and outward, instead. If I manage to get my feet in something close to that position, my toes get goofy, pointing in multiple directions. I want to learn how to straighten my (bare) feet when walking and hold them together, flat, the way I described...
