My husband and I have gotten absolutely addicted to Yale history prof David Blight's course on the American civil war on iTunes U.
Help us find more courses like this, preferably in the humanities. What are your favorites?

Is there a good iPhone app for listening to my own downloaded podcasts/audiobooks that I have as mp3's? I would love an app that I can upload the mp3's to over wifi, and that has tempo control so that I can speed it up a bit. The app should remember the position I am in on each file I listen to, not just the last file.

Where are all the cool lady podcasts? I listen to TAL, Wiretap, Radiolab, The Truth, etc., all of which I love, but I would like to hear some female perspectives in the mix as well. I prefer science-y content but comedy or just life in general works too. I'm open to anything, really, just want to hear some great female podcasting.

Over the past few years, despite my Luddite sympathies, I've become a devoted podcast listener. I recently dropped a couple that I wasn't enjoying as much as I once had, but I'd like to see if there's maybe one more I could squeeze in. Any suggestions for interesting 10-15 minute podcasts? Interesting, thought-provoking, intellectual podcasts - 2012 version - recommendations? I have seen the past threads on MetaFilter about this very topic, but they are a bit old, and I was wondering if anyone had discovered some great podcasts over the last few years.
For me, I love Marc Maron, Answer Me This! is fun, big on Joe Rogan's podcast. But there are some gaps over the course of the work week, and I love to learn and listen to stimulating, thought-provoking conversation.

I've read that a podcast becomes more popular on iTunes the more people review it. Is that true? Why is that the case? Is it worth it to ask listeners of my podcast to review it to improve the podcast rank?

Sleep sounds: do you have any podcasts or music you find it useful to listen to to help you to fall asleep? Or recommendations which might fit the criteria of the podcasts I currently use to help me to fall asleep - calm voices, very few sudden increases in speech volume or musical interludes, subject matter which is interesting but not urgent. What's a decent iPhone app for downloading/listening to podcasts? I'm trying to avoid syncing it to iTunes every time I want to get new podcasts, so I'd like to use this app to subscribe to one and let me know when new episodes are available (that's the important part), listen to them, and delete them. Didn't find much of anything in the AskMeFi archives except a reference to Podcaster, but does anyone have any personal recommendations? Free or not-free. Thanks!
