Where I can find those norwegian bachelor farmers

Is there an unofficial Prairie Home Companion podcast of the whole show? I love prairie home companion, but am never around a radio when it's on. I listen to most of the NPR programs I like through podcasts so I have something to do on public transit. But APHC only offers a podcast of the Tales from Lake Wobegon. I want the whole show!

You can stream past shows from the APHC website, and I know I could use an audiostream recording program to save the stream, and then transfer it to my ipod, but I'm hoping someone else is already going through the trouble of doing this.

I've found a few other unofficial podcasts of shows that don't have their own podcasts, but I havn't been able to find this for APHC. So does anyone know if it exists?

Like, anti-red-eye tips, sort of.

What can I do to produce fairly high-quality videos for podcasts with basic equipment and a modicum of skill? I am a project manager in charge of overseeing the production of short (10-minute) videos by a stable of consultants, and I need to figure out how to (and how to help them) shoot videos of fairly good quality with basic equipment and little prior skill. (I have about $250 to spend on a new digital camera/video camera, so recommendations for that are welcome, too.)

The videos I need to shoot are just talking heads. How can I ensure that I make fairly good ones? I also need to provide a style guide to assist people in shooting their own--how can I translate tips and tricks into a written guide when I won't be present to assist?

Idiot-proof tips and tricks would be appreciated.

Where can I find good D&D podcasts?

I need a good D&D-themed podcast. The only one I've found that's still updating is a recording of a game group's actual sessions, but that's not what I want. Ideally, it'll be about running a good game, creating campaigns, &c. Any links for me? I love podcasts, since they are a way to keep my ears busy at my somewhat brainless job, and I'm looking for just one more of my interests to listen about. I need a good D&D podcast. WotC was running one for a while, but it stopped updating a year ago. I found one on a podcast directory, but it's the uncut audio transcript of one group's gaming sessions. The ITMS podcast directory for games and hobbies only has podcasts that talk about video games, which I read a lot about anyway. Something about good 'ol dungeons and dragons, wizards, etc, is what I'm after. Any suggestions?

Are free, serialised podcasts of great novels available for download from anywhere on the web?

Are free, serialised podcasts of great novels available for download from anywhere on the web? I do a lot of very tedious driving, and would love to listen to podcasts of novels the way I used to listen to audio books. My initial Googling around has yielded a lot of admirable projects where people seem to be serialising their own writing, but I'm really looking for fantastic readings of (for example) Hesse, Hemingway, Orwell, Woolf, Eliot, Lawrence, Huxley...you get the drift - diverse, established works.

Does such a thing exist?

It's a podcast about nothing!

Looking for some podcasts about nothing, and video games, respectively. I'm looking for some podcasts that are in the same vein as SModcast, as well as some console video game podcasts (perhaps something like Retronauts). I've tried doing some searching on my own, but podcasts tend to be fairly long, so it's time consuming. Does anyone have any suggestions?

I like SModcast because it's not really about anything. They'll just talk about whatever comes to mind, so generally, no two episodes are the same. I also enjoy when people talk about funny events that have occurred in their life, which is another reason why I enjoy SModcast.

As for video game podcasts, I haven't really found much of anything I like, so I can't give any examples. I like Retronauts because they talk about previous (video game) generations rather than just this generation alone, and they aren't focused on a single console (though, I don't care for how often they talk over each other). I'd like something that doesn't have people bashing whatever console it is they don't like -- I don't really buy into the whole "choosing sides" thing when it comes to console "wars", so I find it annoying when people start trash talking consoles.

Any suggestions?

Are there any websites that archive podcast audio (*not just links)? I'm looking to download old episodes of shows like"BBC From Our Correspondent", but all the podcast sites I can find such as Odeo and Pluggd.tv only link to the original files, which have long since dissapeared.
Podcasts in het Nederlands/Dutch Podcasts

Welke Nederlandse podcasts kun je me aanbevelen? Ben op zoek naar nederlandse podcasts van hetzelfde caliber als mijn favoriete engelstalige podcasts, zoals:

In Our Time
All in the Mind
This American Life
Radiolab
Start the Week
Thinking Allowed
Street Stories

Maar omdat ik al jaren niet meer in NL woon, ben ik niet op de hoogte van wat de nederlandse radio tegenwoordig te bieden heeft (ik heb overigens nog wel mooi Het Bureau mee weten te pikken).

Podcasts for Rio Carbon?

Is there software to automatically manage podcasts on my Rio Carbon Pearl? I'm looking for something that will function like iTunes for an iPod or Zune for a Zune -- keep only unplayed shows on my player, download new shows when I run the software, etc. Are there any iTunes alternatives which will handle this on my Rio Carbon?
Why does iTune lose my podcasts?

Why does iTunes keep losing my podcasts? I'm quite new to the podcast game, although I have used iTunes regularly (sans iPod) for a few years. I have iTunes subscribed to 5 podcasts, and set to check them hourly for new episodes, download any new ones, and keep all episodes indefinitely.

Most of the time I can listen to podcasts fine, however sometimes iTunes will download a new podcast, flag it as un-listened-to, and then when I try to play it say:

The podcast "________" could not be used because the original file could not be found. Would you like to locate it?

When I try to find the actual podcast file it's not in the itunes\itunes music\podcasts directory - but if iTunes hasn't downloaded the file why is it telling me there's a new podcast to listen to? (No, the podcasts is not still downloading - it is showing in the Podcast window as downloaded (not greyed-out, & no GET button) and new (blue dot next to it)).

I have tried rebooting iTunes, upgrading it to the latest version, and clicking "Update Podcast". I'm using Vista Home Premium.

The only way I've found so far of downloading the missing podcasts that works is un- and re-subscribing to the podcasts. Which is annoying and defeats the point of having iTunes automatically download them for me.

Problems With NPR Podcasts

Lately NPR podcasts such as Fresh Air, Wait, Wait..., and All Songs Considered have been acting wonky with multiple files of the same podcast, often incomplete, showing up in my podcatcher. I subscribe via Google Reader and dL files manually to my player, and have tried un- and then resubscribing to the feeds, but to no avail. Is it NPR's problem or an RSS issue on my end? I haven't been able to find any notices regarding service issues on the NPR sites.

How do I advertise my niche Podcast?

Whats the best way to advertise and get the word out on my very niche comedy news/talkshow podcast so that it winds up being listened to by the right audience of interested people? I've currently done about 6 episodes. From my Talkshoe host I know that I've had around 47 people download my last podcast, since I recorded it in Febuary. I've posted links and updates about it on Improv forums like Improv Resource Center and Yesand.com but it obviously doesn't bring in that many listeners. I would definitely like a larger audience and I would like much more interaction between me and my listeners, I've only received about 2 emails from listeners and that was waaay back around my first and second episode.

Good gardening podcasts?

Can anyone recommend interesting and useful podcasts about gardening and garden design? I like Gardeners' Question Time but I can't find a podcast version of the programme. (Sub-question: is there an easy way to download the real or windows media streams from the BBC website and convert to an appropriate format, for free?)

I'm looking for something that gives advice on what I should be doing each week/fortnight/month in the garden, and also has some interesting discussion and features.

I'm prepared to just work my way through the results of the "garden podcast" Google search. This question is hopefully to help me home in on a couple of really decent ones quickly (it's planting time out there!)

Definitely relevent information: I live in Southern England, so a podcast based on gardening in a temperate climate in the northern hemisphere would be ideal.

Might be relevent information: I have an iPhone, my girlfriend has an iPod Classic, and we use iTunes on a PC.

Do any podcasts exist that deal (fairly) rigorously with literary/media theory and/or continental philosophy?

Do any podcasts exist that deal (fairly) rigorously with literary/media theory and/or continental philosophy? I miss the theory courses I attended in college. I also love podcasts. I'd like to find something that combines these two interests.

I'm looking for something that deals with theory at a level of rigor akin to that of an undergraduate classroom. I'd love for it to wrangle some of the big poststructuralist, postmodernist, and postcolonial thinkers and their critics: Derrida, Foucault, Deleuze, Lyotard, Jameson, Spivak, Chow, etc.

It would be nice to find something either similar to KCRW's bookworm, but with a critical theory bent, or like the Philosophy Bites podcast. I love Philosophy Bites, but they concentrate more on classical and analytical philosophers.

Any leads? Thanks a lot!

Podcasts audience sizes

Is there an easy way to find out the average estimated audience size of a specific podcast? We are considering approaching some podcasters with a view to finding out if they would be interested in interviewing the CEO of our company. The podcasts would be aimed at a fairly narrow audience (the aviation industry, airline pilots, private pilots, etc.) but obviously we want to reach the maximum audience possible.

So is there a way to find out what kind of subscription numbers a podcast might have, either through iTunes or one of the podcasting hosting services? We don’t want to just contact the podcaster and say “Hey, how many people do you think actually listen to your stuff?” as we might not get a totally honest reply.

I enjoy the BBC's "In Our Time", which features serious discussion of historical events and people by academics working in the field, and also quirky, thought-provoking programs like WNYC's "Radio Lab" and "This American Life". I'm not so keen on some of the podcasts I typically get from newspapers that gloss over the surface of a subject with little analysis. What other highbrow podcasts are made by people who really know their shit?

iTunes added my new music tracks as podcast episodes, but doesn't show them under Podcasts -- how can I delete them?

I added some new music tracks to iTunes, and for some reason it thought they were podcast episodes. So it doesn't show them under 'Music'. But it's not showing them in the 'Podcasts' library either. I've deleted the music files from the Finder, but how can I clear out the tracks from my iTunes library? Here's exactly what happened:

1. I dragged some MP3s into iTunes (these ones, to be precise).
2. iTunes copied them to my iTunes Library folder, and started playing them...
3. ...but I couldn't find them in 'Music'. I could only see them in my 'Unplayed tracks' smart playlist.
4. I looked for them in the Finder, and saw that iTunes had put them in the 'Podcasts' folder.
5. But, in the 'Podcasts' source in iTunes, they don't show up. (I'm guessing it's because the Podcasts view groups episodes by podcast, and since these tracks aren't attached to an actual podcast, it's not showing them.)
6. I deleted the files from the Finder, but obviously this doesn't remove them from the iTunes library -- they're still listed there, with the little exclamation mark icon next to them, indicating that the files are missing.

Because I can only see the tracks in a smart playlist, and not in a true source list, there's no 'Delete' option, so I can't figure out how to remove these orphaned tracks from my library. So how can I clean them up?

(I subsequently used the ID3 tag trick from this AskMe to successfully import the files into the 'Music' section, but I'm still left with a bunch of orphaned tracks from the failed first import that I'd like to get rid of.)

Free video podcasts

What are the best *free* video podcasts available? News and cooking are what I'm really looking for. I love listening to NPR and BBC World Service, and I love watching PBS and the Food Network. News and cooking video podcasts are what I'm really looking for, but if you have any other fun suggestions, please let me know.

Which program do you use to manage music and podcasts on your computer and iPod?

I think we're due for a new discussion about alternatives to iTunes for both iPod management and listening to music. We've had this discussion before, but unless I'm missing something, it's been about a year, maybe more like two for a direct question on this topic. Or maybe it happened again last week and I'm using lousy search terms.

I just got a music-less, Vista PC, and want to use it with my iPod (already put the music onto the comp, thanks, using Sharepod) and I now want to choose a program to listen to music and manage my iPod.

iTunes was a bit large and didn't strike me as being the most user-friendly program ever. I used to like Winamp, about 5 years ago, due to its collapsible grouping of songs by artist. I liked the podcasts feature of iTunes when I had it on my old comp; do other programs allow for browsing podcasts like iTunes does?

This list suggests that Floola might be a good thing; any experience with that one?

Thanks for your suggestions.

Podcasts for kids?

Any suggestions for podcasts that might interest a nine year old? Interests include science, inventions, reading, poetry, animals, the environment... (PBS's Fetch show has one that goes over well, with the added bonus of a reliable source.)
