Can you help me decide between PDA's, Smartphones, Pocket PCs and the year 2008? I am looking most specifically for info on the Sony Clie PEG NX70V ... IPAQ 4350 ... and IPAQ 2215. But advice on any of this would be immensely helpful! I did search AskMeFi, but found only info for new equipment or old posts. I'm talking used equipment instead, older but able to keep up with current software stuff. (More inside) [more inside]

Can anyone suggest a reliable rss client/reader for a Windows Mobile 5 pocket PC running on a Softbank X01HT (a Japanesed HTC Hermes 200). I've tried pRSS - always crashed, also Happy Jack Road's Pocket RSS has problems connecting and usually doesn't download feeds. Also I've tried a couple that from Handango but they wouldn't load, (yes I did make sure I had the right version).

How can I uninstall a driver, and keep it uninstalled? I don't want Windows to keep installing it every time I plug my phone into the computer. I want it to be like the very first time I plugged it in -- when Windows had no idea what driver to install. [more inside]

I really like CMS systems such as Joomla and DotNetNuke that allow me to host information I want to access remotely (blog posts, news, serial numbers, etc...). However, since I have my PDA with me all the time and not my notebook, I would really like to use a CMS that I can access via my PDA. My screen size is 320x240 pixels. Most of the CMS systems I have ever seen don't translate well to a PDA screen. Are there any out there that do? I am looking for a system that I can host on my own servers. Thanks!

Are there any web based calendars/task management programs that will sync with Outlook or straight to my Pocket PC? I got Sunbird syncing but after using it a while I switched back to Outlook, but I really like the idea of using something like Google Calendar, Backpack or iCommit when I'm at work or at school. I’ve thought about an exchange server account somewhere, but all the places I looked seemed to be pretty pricy for a student budget. Any suggestions?

I realize that there have been variations on the "best PDA" theme before, but hopefully others will find this question (and it's answers) usefull: My wife wants a PDA for all the basic PIM functions, but also to occasionally browse the web via wifi (it's a lot easier to hold out of reach of our 1-year old son than her 20lb. Dell laptop). Do I have to plunk down $299 for a Palm Tx, or are there more affordable options? Do you have a favorite PDA (we're not wedded to any particular OS) that may not have built-in wifi, but can accept a wifi expansion card, perhaps coming out cheaper even with the xtra $$ for the wifi card? Obviously, a used one would be cheaper still - are there any 2003-4 models you would recommend for this purpose?

I really want a new PDA and am considering the Dell Axim X50v, but I've heard that Windows Mobile 2005 is due to be released "soon." Considering that I'm going to plunk down $500+, should I wait? Big questions is, how long will I have to wait to buy a PDA using the new OS? I really want WiFi and don't want to buy a card for my HP Jornada 568.

PocketPCfilter: I want to charge my iPaq 3955 and use an accessory simultaneously - unfortunately, the AC uses the same plug at the bottom of the unit. SO: Is there a way to split the plug, or am I going to have to splice the two things together somehow? I've asked this question on PocketPC boards to no avail. (I'm not a huge fan of PPC, but this is for a specific little project.)

PDA recommendations:
Needs: Must have CF slot, 802.11b.
Wants: External GPS unit which will work with both my laptop & the PDA
Budget: 399$ or less, not including GPS/additional memory. Must come with standard accessories - cradle, cable, charger, etc.
Etc: Add-on software for viewing PDFs, Word/Excel files, map software.

As I've mentioned here before, I have a Pocket PC that uses SD cards. I've had the device for about 18 months and it is in good shape. I'm at a crossroads now where I'm not sure if I should continue to invest in SD accessories, or simply wait for the compact memory arena to settle down. Anyone with some insight into the future of Pocket PC's, SD, and its competition?
