I browsed pocket watches on amazon.com and I noticed that nearly all mechanical ones show the skeleton movement (gears) inside. And it is not pleasant on the eyes. Why do manufacturers not hide the inner workings with cover, like the old times? Do they try to say implicitly "Look, we said mechanical and you see it yourself, no battery inside" ? Or is there some other reason for producing these ugly watches?

Looking for a sustainable pocket pen solution (for a girl)!-- I need suggests/recommendations/ideas for a pocket pen that is thin in diameter and short. It needs to either be extremely cheap and easily replaceable, or easily refillable (fountain pen ink, pencil lead, or non-proprietary refills). I would ideally like to carry this in my pants pocket, and will probably carry it all the time. I can't spend more than 20 dollars on this, and really, less than 10 is even better.

So, we just got a mini filled pie press that can punch out little pocket pies about the size of those sold at the biggest fast food chain. I'm going to head to the store to pick up some frozen pie crusts. What are your favorite sweet or meaty/veg filled pie recipes?

My friend, Hilary asks, "Does anyone have any idea what
these are? They were found, strung together like this, in the pocket of a Japanese soldier's overcoat during WWII. My Mother's friend worked for the Red Cross during the war, and found them, and they eventually came to me. I'm guessing they are coral....but what was their use?"

Lately I've been hearing the phrase 'money in your pocket' a lot. I know it's an old expression, but the overuse of it recently seems to point to some real estate/money makin' motivational speaker or program suggesting this particular phrase as some sort of tagline. Can anyone point me to a point of origin for this recent usage?

Looking to purchase a handful of reasonably-priced ($100) pocket watches, but would like to see/check them out first, so am hesitant to use eBay. I really like old
Molnija watches but I don't see anyway I could get a handful in the next couple of weeks. I also like the Swiss Army pocket watches but don't like that they are close to $200 and don't have plated covers. Where is a good place to go check out some pocket watches (western and central Pennsylvania if possible)? Are they even sold in stores or does one absolutely have to get something like that online? If finding such things in a short window (must be purchased in next week and a half) is going to be an incredibly low-probability event, then does the hive mind have suggestions for other interesting and semi-permanent gifts for men?

Help me identify a toy! Around 1980 (in the northeastern United States) there was a line of small games contained within sealed plastic boxes approximately five inches long, two and half across, and perhaps half an inch thick (13 x 6 x 1cm, about the size of a pocket calculator back then). Many contained one or more small steel balls. Some, with flippers, took the form of a pinball or basketball game. Others were mazes or other puzzles. Some contained plastic beads floating in fluid. Some involved magnets. I had a bunch of these at one point but I cannot remember who made them or what they were called.

I have an HP iPAQ 2750. Around the same time it was manufactured, lots of aftermarket hardware and software came out with promises to enhance the device. One of those applications was a GPRS/GSM plug in modem (via the CF Card slot) and software from a company called Enfora. The modem was bundled with software from a company called BVRP. There was other software without a modem which also installed phone tools on the PDA from another company called WebToGo.
