I just want to wash my hands with warm water!

[plumbingfilter] My bathroom and kitchen faucets don't give cold water until they've been running for at least one minute. The shower runs hot much quicker (10-20 seconds). Is this something that can be fixed? My landlord says no. [more inside]

Don't drink the brown water

Without warning my hot water (and hot water only) has suddenly started running brown, and when I drain a tub of it silt like material is left in the bottom. I suspect it's rust. After running the water for a long time it does not seem to be going away. Am I right in thinking that this is probably my boiler and it should be replaced? The suddenness seems weird. Also: my family has been showing and bathing in this, could it be harmful in any way?

How can A and B be connected if there's nothing to connect them?

When our pool equipment runs, it triggers the sound of a leaky pipe in a wall adjacent to our hot water heater. By triggering the valve on the hot water heater when the water to the house is off, I can stop the noise. How can I fix this? [more inside]
