Help me have a countertop dishwasher, fancy faucet edition

I've been itching to have a countertop dishwasher again. The catch? I rent and my kitchen faucet is a pull out model, with the built in sprayer. I have an idea below -- can you let me know if it's feasible (plus any pitfalls to watch out for), and if not, perhaps point me in a better direction? [more inside]

Help id the manufacturer of this c.1963 shower cold water valve stem!

We have a drip drip drip in the shower and had the plumber look at it when he came to service the furnace. Unfortunately it's not just the gasket; the actual valve stem is broken. House was built in 1963 and length of stem is ~3.25" (pictures at http://www.flickr.com/photos/vector_irony/) [more inside]

How do I make my toilet flush completely?

Toilet Filter: After putting down a new floor and re-installing, my toilet won't flush all the way. I've completely rebuilt the guts (new fill mechanism, new flush valve, new flapper), I've maximized the tank fill, plunged and augerred, and even used muriatic acid to clean the jets (though I might not have done it correctly), with no results. Do I need a new roof?

In my second year of first-time home ownership and husband and I are thinking we need to do a little spring cleaning around the house. Other than a minor plumbing issue in the bathroom we have had (knock on wood) zero problems with the house. In an effort to keep up this track record, what trouble spots should we look for in the house? How do you know if the roof is in good shape? What are typical home maintenance needs? [more inside]

Is my new toilet okay?

I replaced a toilet about a week ago and since then I've been hearing little pings in the bathroom-- like what you might hear coming from a cooling ceramics kiln. I've noticed it three times. There are no visible cracks in the toilet. Is this normal? Or is my new Plebe (seriously!) toilet going to suddenly bust up?
