Need a book reader plugin for my website?
I have a 30 page booklet that I would like to include on my website.

Can anyone recommend an application or plugin for my website to do this?

( I am not talking about Adobe Reader or Foxit reader type application here)

This is a type of application that has a back and foward button to turn the pages that kinda integrates into your site.

Can any of you recommend a Wordpress plugin that will enable me to turn comments on/off for particular blog posts? I'm trying to disable commenting on specific blog posts, but only seem to be able to turn them off on all posts. Is there a plugin that will allow me to turn comments on and off as necessary?

And, do you recommend any other comment plugins?

Wordpress comments/message board plugin

Looking for a Wordpress plug in that would combine posts and comments in with a message board. I'd like to find a seamless way to bridge blog comments with a message board. Hopefull, this exists and someone can just steer me to the utility or plug in, or maybe just tips on how to make it happen.

How it would (hopefully) work:

1. Author publishes a post just like normal.
2. The message board automatically pulls the post and creates a new thread with it, crediting author as the poster.
3. When blog readers click to comment, they'd automatically be brought to the message board.
4. The blog entry itself would display number of comments as number of replies on the message board thread.

I know there are plugins that give comments the look of message board hierarchy, but I'm hoping for something that will naturally draw traffic to a hosted message board.

How should I scan 500 40-year-old slides?

Recommendation for professional 35mm slide scanning services, either through the mail or in the Washington D.C. metro area. Best recommendation for extremely long term archival storage of slides. About 400-500 slides. I have recently come into possession of some very valuable 35 mm slides that are very old. There are about 400-500. Most of the slides are about 40 years old, however some are as old as 55 years old (I didn't think slides went back that far).

The slides are a combination of "Kodachrome Transparency", including the oldest, and "Agfachrome". The way the slides have been stored for the last 30 years at least has guaranteed that they are almost entirely dust and scratch free.

I want to scan these at a very high resolution, but I'm not comfortable dropping these off at a Ritz or Penn Camera store.

Any recommendations for a mail-away service? Any experience with ScanCafe? Any ideas on how I should tell them to do it?

What about storing these slides? The massive B&H catalog doesn't not include anything for storing slides, so any ideas for storage would also be helpful.

Finally, if anyone knows any particularly useful photoshop plugins or filters for color correcting these slides, I'd appreciate that as well.

WordPress Plugin to Highlight Best Comments?

I run a couple of WordPress blogs. Sometimes a reader will leave an excellent comment. I would love to find a plugin (or an easy method) to highlight these great comments, similar to the way AskMe highlights best answers. I can't figure out how to do this. Do you have any suggestions? Just to be clear, I'm not really looking for a "karma" type plugin in which users choose best comments. I want to choose the best comments, which would then create some sort of flag that would trigger alternate CSS formatting. If there's a karma plugin that allows this (while disabling user karma), that's good.

Crazy Wordpress plugin request: A way to automatically resize and autocrop images and place them into a post without manual uploading - just providing an image url from elsewhere on the web. I'm working on a news like site that I'd occasionally like to grab images off of another site, and then resize them with predefined dimensions without changing the aspect ration.

As a practical example, think Google News - they snag pics from news articles, and then thumbnail them. As for predefined aspect ration, think Flickr, and how they will simply "square off" images as a thumbnail option.

To save the time of downloading, then reuploading, I'd like to find a plug in that can automatically take and resize the image from an image URL.

This dream plug in would also be able to automatically insert the altered image into entries, likely using custom fields.

Finally, and this is gravy, but this would also allow for different image sizes depending on where the entry would appear - front page, archive listings, or the post page.

I want a plugin for Wordpress that will automatically add my Amazon Associates ID into an URL. I've googled, and found loads of plugins that work with Wordpress and Amazon, but none of them appear to do this. For example, I link to a product on Amazon, typing

http://www.amazon.com/[insert ASIN etc here]

I'd like the plugin to automatically modify the URL to something like

http://www.amazon.com/[insert ASIN etc here][insert ID here]

I've found several Amazon themed WP plugins, but none of them seems to do this. I don't want an Amazon based shop set up. I don't want a sidebar littered with Amazon products. I want to be able to visit Amazon, find the product I'm looking for, paste the URL into a post, and have the associate ID automatically added.

Either that, or a simple guide as to where in the URL the ID needs to be pasted manually. I know Amazon has a builder that will do this, but I find it cumbersome to use when I have several URL's that need editing.

Is there a plugin/extension/script for Firefox that automatically resizes text columns to make them a comfortable width to read? I spend a lot of time reading large blocks of text on the web, and I find myself constantly resizing the browser window (firefox) in order to make a particular block of text a comfortable reading width (the oft-quoted 80 characters). Does anyone know of an extension or greasemonkey script that will do this automatically, as I switch between tabs?

Are there any plug-ins for Firefox similar to the concept of "spaces" on Apple Leopard? For those not familiar with Spaces, I'm looking for a plug-in that will optimize my Firefox browser for different tasks, in other words, show certain bookmarks, plug-ins, etc.. while hiding others, depending on what task I'm doing at the time. Perhaps I have one set of plug-ins and bookmarks just for business tasks and another for entertainment, etc... This would be of GREAT benefit to me. I'm sure you all know how cluttered a browser can get when you do a lot of internet activities.

Building a listening area on a blog post

Need an easy-to-use, visually elegant mp3 jukebox thingie for a website Got a large collection of mp3 files that I'd like to allow people to listen to from a single blog post (Wordpress). So I'm looking for a nice jukebox-ish app that I can embed, allows users to scroll through the choices, click on the one they want to listen to, it starts playing in-line.

I'm not having any luck finding a WP plugin. And I don't want to just list a bunch of links to the mp3 files. Any great, elegant, quick way to make a "listening area" on a single blog post?

What's a good image gallery plugin for Wordpress? I have a podcast with a wordpress website http://www.slangdesign.com/rppr and recently I got 18 images that I want to put on the website as a gallery. However, there are dozens of different gallery plugins for wordpress and the one I tried gallery.menalto.com/ is far too complex for me to install. I apparently needed to download and install imagemagick on my web server which is beyond my ability.

What can I download, ftp over to the plugindirectory and use?

Making space on a Mac drive

Will I screw up my Mac if I empty out the /Library/Printers folder? I'm trying to free up some space on my laptop's hard drive, since it seems constantly to be full these days. Rooting around with Disk Inventory X, it looks like I have a block of plugin files in the /Library/Printers directory that's taking up 1.4 gig of space. Do these plugins actually do anything? They're categorized in subfolders by printer manufacturer, but none of them are for printers that I actually use.

If I dump this folder, will I screw up other programs like Word or Acrobat? I have a 12" PowerBook G4 with OS X 10.4.10.

Bonus points if you know of other inessential pre-loaded crap that's lurking on my drive and taking up space.

Freetype for the Gimp on Windows

How do I install the Freetype plugin for the Gimp on Windows? Google turns up nothing other than instructions to compile it, but I can't believe there isn't a precompiled Windows version online. It looks like it's no longer included in the standard distribution. Alternately, is there any other way to do kerning on the Gimp on Windows?

OS X plugins

Novice programmer; OS X plugin question... I'm using this cool OS X app. The developer allows (Cocoa) plugins to be used by the app, and provides a well-documented example with the SDK. I've contacted the developer and pitched some feature enhancement ideas, he has replied that he will consider them when he has time, perhaps in a future release of the cool app.

I have this burning need for these features. I have them working in a separate, crappy app. I'd really like to have them in the cool app, and I wonder if I can do that by wrapping them into a plugin.

My question is: If an OS X app accepts plugins, how accessible are the main app's methods and protocols from the plugin? To be more specific, if the id's of the main app's methods are not known to the plugin writer?

Am I just in over my head? Is this borderline hacking?

I bought two licenses of said cool app - I'm not trying to crack anything, I just really *really* want my features implemented.

ATL, COM, Automation in VC++ 2005 - Help me make sense of it all! I'm creating an Outlook 2003 / 2007 Add-In in VC++ using VS 2005. I've been referencing these two excellent Code Project articles, but I want to go a little deeper...

Though I'm a seasoned developer, I've been away from C++ and COM / Automation for a while. I need a book / website that I guess I would describe as intermediate-level; more than an "Introduction to VC++" but less than "ATL Internals" (which is a great book but is just a little over my head).

I want to know things like:

-- When I use an #import statement, what is raw_interfaces_only doing? Do I need it for my plugin (it's used in the example code in the articles I mentioned above)? Why?

-- How can I avoid calls like HRESULT hr = Session->get_Folders( &Folders );
And instead just call Folders = Session->Folders;
More like a normal VC++ app.

-- What if I'm trying to #import a file that's not on the user's computer? I.e. can I detect if they have Outlook 2003 installed vs. Outlook 2007 and #import accordingly?

-- When do I use a CComPtr and when do I use a CComQIPtr??? Can I get by without using them at all?

-- In what ways can VS 2005 help me to generate code for my add-in? Do I really have to modify the sink map and COM map by hand to add event sinks?

BTW no I don't want to use VB and no, I don't want to use C# or the CLI.

help me "subscribe" to websites that do not use RSS with Firefox. I remember in the days of IE 5 on the mac there was a feature to "subscribe" to a website. This method did not use RSS. I think it simply checked for a change in the html of the page every N minutes. I use a lot of websites that do not utilize rss and I hate having to go through my bookmarks one by one to see if anything has been updated. Is there a plugin that emulates the IE 5 functionality? Ideally in the native Firefox bookmark menu.

Why can't I play Flash content on my Mac? This is embarrassing...

Every browser on my machine (Firefox, Flock and Safari) have all suddenly stopped playing with Flash content, even though I have the Flash plug-in installed (click here for proof).

When I go to a page in Firefox that needs the plug-in, like YouTube, I get this.

I've tried installing the Flash plugin over and over again from here (I choose Option 1).

I've tried uninstalling the Flash plugin (using this DMG) and reinstalling it. Doesn't help at all.

What the hell is going on here?

3DsMax website plugin to zoom, spin and tag

3D-filter I need to know if there is some sort of web plugin that can show full 3dsMax creations on the web. Spin, Zoom and Tag, more info after the link... Originally I was thinking of rendering the animation as a movie and then streaming it in Flash on the web.

However my client wants to be able to spin the 3d creation and have the ability to zoom in and possibly tag areas of the 3d image.

This needs to be embedded into a html page. I know that Nokia had something similar with their showcased phones years ago. You could rotate the phone, open cases, turn on, etc. It doesnt need to be that advanced, just zoom, rotate and possible tag.

Another problem, it needs to be easy to import from 3DsMax and foolproof.

Subclipse icons

I'm using Eclipse with Subclipse. Until recently, in Eclipse's Navigator window, there were little icons on each folder and file telling you if they had been changed since the last commit. The icons have gone. How do I get them back? Subclipse seems to be working fine aside from this. The 'Team' submenu on the context menu in the Navigator panel is still there, and committing and updating still works fine. Have tried reinstalling Eclipse and plugins &mdash — no joy.

Eclipse 3.2.1 on XP; Subclipse 1.0.4; PyDev 1.2.5.

Is there a way to search for otherwise-unsearchable text elements on a webpage?

Is there a firefox plugin that will allow me to search ALL text on a webpage including dropdown menus and otherwise unsearchable fields? My employer has recently switched to a new java-based CMS. One problem (among many) is that I need to deal with assigning categories to files - often up to 128 at a time. Each category appears on its own line and has its own dropdown menu, but the categories go in no particular order as you scroll down and there is no way to sort them, either alphabetically or in any other way. An alphabetical sort feature is on our wishlist for the next build, but in the meantime we have to make do. What would be great is if there was a way to search EVERYTHING displayed on the page so that I could quickly find the categories I need to deal with/assign, but the control-f feature in firefox (obviously) only brings up searchable text. Is there a plugin of some kind that can search all text elements displayed on a page, including the dropdown menus? That would make my life way easier. Any workarounds/suggestions would be much appreciated.

I have tried to get Musicast working with no luck (maybe firewall issues? It successfully creates the feed...).
