Is there a name for, or type of, deep throated pliers (pincers?) that only meet at their tips? Got a source? Details within... [more inside]

I was watching an old Mythbusters last night and Jamie had a multi-tool where the pliers sprung out like a flick knife. Not in a fold-back-the-handles way like my current one, but a spring loaded thing of beauty. WANT!!!

So I have an OLD toilet seat with hardware that is pretty much completely rusted/broken down. I cannot get the nut down the plastic screw with ANY type of wrench/screwdriver/plier combination. How do I remove the seat hardware without breaking the toilet??? [more inside]
