I'm medium-capable with computer stuff; not afraid of a command line, but not a lot more sophisticated than mkdir and mv commands. I've got an ECS LIVA box that I'd like to try putting a Plex server on. I've installed Ubuntu 14.04, and connected it to a 5TB external drive, but I'm getting a bit nervous. Is Plex on this setup within my skill range? [more inside]
What is the song playing around 49 minutes into this Maceo Plex Boiler Room set? Link here. Song has a woman singing about how her blood earns her keep.
My friend has a multi-room Sonos system. I like the idea that he can pick up his phone/tablet, browse music, select something and have it play to one of the speakers in his house. I'd like to have this experience too - but not spend as much and limit it to only the stereo in one room. Will a Raspberry Pi running Plex plugged into a stereo give me this? [more inside]
How can I get my VPN (privateinternetaccess) to play nice with Plex? [more inside]
I have a number of ripped DVDs that maintain the original DVD file structure. VLC can play them fine. So can built in DVD players. I like Plex for the way it catalogs and organizes the files for me, but it never played that structure back very well, and in newer released versions it isn't even trying to play it any longer. Is there something with same cataloging features of Plex that can seamlessly pass the file to VLC or some other program for play back? Solutions for Mac and/or Windows are welcome. Extra credit if there is a client/server implementation that could actually play these files through something like Roku.
If you could start your HTPC set up all over again, what would you choose? I'm gifting everything (from tv to htpc to router) to my partner and starting from scratch. Tips and suggestions are welcome! [more inside]
My Roku Soundbridge died after many years. What's the cheapest, standalone device that will play with my Slimserver setup (aka SqueezeCenter, Logitech Media Center)? All I need is an audio out to hit my receiver, no need for built in speakers, fancy screen or anything else. I'd be interested if there were any other alternatives to Slimserver. The web interface, accessible by any device, and the fact it deals with large collections well, are reasons I currently keep it. [more inside]
