I'm putting together a playlist to get me through this weekend. The theme is: we are all going to die/everything is terrible/this is a disaster/the end of civilization as we know it. Connections can be tenuous, lyrical/topical fit less important than the one moment of "HA! This song! Perfect!" Songs so far include REM's "It's the End of the World As We Know It," The Homeless Gospel Choir's "Armageddon," Def Leppard's "Armageddon It." Not interested in generic depressing/downbeat songs or overly sincere songs or even hopeful ones. Bitter laughs preferred.
So, post-election, I'm feeling kind of like I'm hearing a lot of songs (particularly 80s/Cold War era- songs) for the first time all over again. Help me build a playlist to explore this phenomenon? [more inside]
For my election night celebration (TTTCS) I'm looking for the hottest, most rare choice indie electro club bangers of 2008. [more inside]
I teach heated vinyasa flow yoga. In the past, I have not normally taught or practiced with music, but I recently started teaching at a couple of studios that expect music to be played during class. So I am looking for some good tunes. Difficulty level: I do not like typical "yoga music." [more inside]
I am looking for suggestions for techno/trance/electronic music to help me concentrate. I thought I'd just look for "focus" music on Spotify and Youtube, but I find mostly classical piano music, and that doesn't help me focus at all. I need music without any lyrics (also no yelling, spoken words, etc), and a somewhat fast beat. [more inside]
I'm back in a music phase, and I like to use smart Spotify playlists as a point of discovery. Aquarium Drunkard is an example of a list I listen to regularly, and really enjoy. Can you recommend some others to me? [more inside]
Trying to copy an existing playlist that I created in Apple Music and share it with my niece who has expressed a very similar interest in that type of music. Is this even possible? [more inside]
I would like to take my YouTube playlist, shuffle it, and save the results of my shuffling on YouTube. How do I do so? [more inside]
I was an early adopter of Google Music with the "all access" feature, and have been generally happy with the service for listening to my own library of music and adding new albums from artists I already know I like. The one thing I really don't care for is the automated playlists. Is there any way to improve its suggestions? Should I try to use some other feature of the service to find music? Or is it just not very good for this task? [more inside]
I'm looking for YouTube channels that are dedicated to providing education about or insight into interesting subjects. They can have humor in them, but I'd prefer for them to be primarily informative rather than humorous. [more inside]
What are some good replacements for the Hipster International playlist on Spotify, which seems to have stopped updating? [more inside]
I love love and I hate most love songs. I feel that real love is incredibly beautiful in it's complexity yet knowledge of it's frailty. I want songs that express this sentiment without being cynical.
My iTunes library consists of 80% complete albums and 20% singles from bands. Without going through and tagging all those singles in any specific way, is there a way to create a smart playlist that will pull all the music with the criteria artist-has-only-one-track or something similar?
Is there a tool or service that allows you to arbitrarily add podcasts episodes to a custom feed you can subscribe to or share ? [more inside]

I'm making a playlist of music that gets my blood flowing. It currently has exactly one track: "Welcome to Jamrock" by Damien Marley (yt). Help me find more music that is similar in vibe, hardness, and in its ability to get a person hyped up! [more inside]
If I'm putting together a playlist to catch up on the best songs that Guided By Voices, Bob Pollard, and their various side projects have put out since their reunion, what songs need to go on it? [more inside]
I know there are songs I want on these playlists that I'm not remembering, and I'm constantly aware that I have blind spots that may be robbing me of perfect songs. Can you help me attack either issue by looking over one or both playlists then suggesting songs to add? [more inside]
We're moving to Minneapolis on Monday after seven bad years in DC. We'll be making the drive from DC to MPLS over two days and need a soundtrack. Help us put together a playlist to kick off this new chapter in our lives properly. [more inside]
I want to leave iTunes randomly shuffling through a given playlist for as long as possible so I don't have to futz with it, but I also want to actually hear *all* the tracks in the list, not just those that the random shuffle always seems to favor. How many/few tracks should I put in a playlist? [more inside]
When I read The Perks of Being a Wallflower, I made a copy of "One Winter," the mix tape that Charlie made. I find I like this odd way of interacting with a book, and I'm interested in finding other books that have mix tapes/playlists in them. I know some authors have web sites that include playlists of songs that they identify with a book and its characters, but that's NOT what I want--I want the mix tapes/playlists actually IN the books, as part of the characters' activity or interplay. I'm looking for an iphone app that will allow me to make playlists easily while listening to music. In the standard music app there is no way to add the song that I am listening to onto a playlist without going back to the playlist, clicking edit, searching for the song in the list then adding it. There has to be an easier way to do this, aside from just going into iTunes on my computer. Any suggestions? I have downloaded a few different music players but none of them seem to do this. Thanks!
I signed up for Spotify recently, and I love having zillions of tracks at my fingertips. But at the same time, I feel like it's changing (and maybe diminishing) the way I listen to and explore music. Can you help me get more out of my listening experience? [more inside]
Jazz songs like "Goodbye Pork Pie Hat/Theme for Lester Young" by Charles Mingus? [more inside]
I'm trying to come up with a final song for my wedding playlist that will be a real showstopper (literally!) — something with a strong anthemic feel, something that evokes community and emotion and celebration and joy. I'm thinking everyone on the dance floor, singing along at the tops of their lungs and draping arms around each other and group-hugging and stuff like that. Think movie montage or closing scene. We Are Young by fun. is EXACTLY what I'm looking for, except that when you pay attention to the verses it's actually pretty depressing. Any suggestions for anthemic, bass-drum-y songs that are wedding-appropriate? [more inside]
Hello, I'm trying to get a playlist for my hubbie for him to code to - ideally electronica, drum and bass, EDM or even modern classical like Arvo Part. Only caveat is that there must be no lyrics - I'd love to hear your favourite picks! I've got a bunch up already at blip for him - he listens to my radio station there - user name - emilybear - to give you an idea of what I've got there currently but I need more, so much more as there's a whole lot of coding to be done. Thanks!
I am making a "peace and love" playlist filled with songs that urge social consciousness and positive action. So far I have songs like "Man in the Mirror," "He Aint Heavy (He's My Brother)," "Get Together," "Imagine," etc. What are some good songs in that vein? [more inside]
I purchased iTunes match so that'll my songs are both on my hard drive and in the cloud. When syncing my iPhone with computer using a cable, playlists will copy but only the information. Not the actual tracks. I have to download them with wifi. My questions is 2 part 1) is this normal that the media does not actually transfer? 2) if it isn't how do I fix this so that songs transfer from computer to iPhone? I'm up to date on all software.

A spot to help me Spotify? New to Spotify, and just don't have time to build my own playlists. I also would like to be turned on to new music, so finding playlists would be really helpful. I have tried to search on Spotify itself but cant find anything except for the 123 top lists. And the streaming by choosing a genre is good but I'm wondering where else to go. (also after listening to spotify all day at work, the genre streaming seems to repeat, much like satellite radio). I googled a few sites for playlists but they are meh - either hard to search, or filter - or just bad, so thought I'd ask the hive. thanks ps. i did read the archives for related, and looked up mentioned sites but still querying you

I think my question might be too vague to google properly, so I turn to you. I'm looking for a wide variety of songs about cities. Not necessarily about a specific city, but in general. A couple of examples of the type of song I'm looking for is Dread the Day (Ghosts of Lemora) and Take Back the City (Snow Patrol). I don't care about musical genre. I'll listen to just about anything. :)
