Our friendship never recovered - what can I learn?

I told my friend I'd developed feelings for her. She didn't reciprocate - but we said we'd still be friends. Within three weeks we're at each other's throats and now it's all over. What the heck happened? [more inside]

How to set platonic boundaries in a male/female friendship

I'm female and I've developed a close friendship with a guy over the past six months. As often happens, there is attraction beyond just a friendship. However, special snowflake circumstances dictate that we need to stay platonic--perhaps not forever, but certainly for now. I need help in setting boundaries. [more inside]

two tickets back to the friend zone, please.

A friend recently confessed that they have Seriously Distracting Feelings for me. Nothing remotely more-than-friendly has ever occurred between us, and they've been married for as long as I can remember. My only option is to pretend like it never happened, but I'm struggling with disappointment and resentment because the introduction of this dynamic frequently changes the foundation of the accompanying friendship and I don't want that to happen. What are some tactics I can employ to make sure that I'm able to move forward respectfully, privately, and (most importantly) at arm's length? Can I take steps to ensure our friendship will mostly go back to how it was before, or is trying to do so an exercise in futility given the circumstances? [more inside]

Pursuing a Platonic Friendship

So I am in an extended academic program meaning almost all of my friends have graduated and moved on and I know only a handful of people in my current city. I have always been very shy and since the departure of my friends I have been making every effort to be a more social, friendly, and outgoing person. I have been doing an OK job but sometimes stumble as I feel very awkward initiating friendships of either sex and I really need help with this one. [more inside]

How do I ensure things stay platonic, but friendly, with this guy?

My dear friend, to whom I am not attracted, continually brings up wanting to date me and isn't getting what I thought were my polite expressions of interest in being just platonic. I recently confessed my romantic feelings to a very close friend and, alas, he doesn't return them. I want to get things back to "normal" between us as quickly is possible. It should be the easiest thing in the world!

I'd like to date my best friend. We've known each other for four or five years, and hang out once or twice every couple of weeks. We're very close, and talk a lot on the phone or online. We both find each other attractive. So my question is, how do I best segue from this platonic relationship into a romantic one? If it goes badly, say if he tells me I've totally misinterpreted the tenor of our relationship, what can I do to patch things over? And - does anyone have any success stories? Thanks so much.
