I bought a plate in Tokyo at Tokyu Hands. The best way I can describe it is "whimsical." I'd love to find more plates along the same lines, but I don't know where to look. [more inside]
We discovered this picture. Not even the oldest people in my family can identify the man. As the family historian, I should know who it is but i don't. As you can see from the picture, the license plate is visible. I think this is in Maryland. Has anyone ever used license plate info for genealogy? Are these records even kept?
If all goes well, I'll have the pre-purchase inspection on this used car tomorrow, and see if I can close a deal to buy it. Then what? I need help with the order of all the paperwork and steps. Complication: I'm in MA, the owner is in CA, and the car is registered and located with the seller's relative in NH. [more inside]
12 years ago I bought Mikasa stoneware dishes for our every day use. They held up really well for the first 10 years. But now they're breaking, chipping, and in need of replacement. But it seems stoneware is no longer available. I see a nice porcelain set by Mikasa. Is that good for everday use or am I looking at lower cost china? [more inside]
Some states print the full county names on their plates and I know a few other states indicate counties by letter or numerical codes. Why is this necessary? [more inside]
As one enters one's second half century, one likes to think that one has mastered little things in life -- like selling a car. Apparently not. [more inside]
My partner and I are looking to invest in a dish set, but we've been struggling to find anything we agree on. After several department store visits, we finally glimpsed something that both of us really, really love. "Look at that!" we exclaimed in unison. Unfortunately, the "that" was Hermès' "Cheval d'Orient" series, which sell for hundreds or thousands per plate. This is way, way beyond our means. Can you recommend some budget alternatives in a similar style? [more inside]
Does this exist? Bowls for eating (like, cerealish size) that stack reasonably well and come with lids (and/or plates made to fit neatly on top of the bowl) so you can use the same bowls to store food - in place of Tupperware?
As a "grown up", which dinnerware (plates, bowls, etc.) do you actually use? Or have, but never use? [more inside]

I just got back from a 500 mile road trip on the New York Thruway. Spotted three cars with Hawaiian license plates. I have never seen one before. Obviously, they didn't drive to the mainland. Two were older cars, mid-ninety's econoboxes, one a big SUV. About how much would it cost to ship a car from the islands, or did they just bring their plates and buy a car locally?
Apparently I was supposed to get Texas plates on my car within 30 days of moving here and get a Texas driver's license within 90 days of moving here. I didn't, and that was 10 months ago. What's going to happen to me? [more inside]

Please pick out some dishware and flatware for me. I am overwhelmed and you all are better at this than me. [more inside]
Anyone have any idea who made this plate? I recently found a beautiful plate at a charity shop, but half of the maker's mark has worn off. It is cream with 3 hand painted orange-red poppies and a green edge, and I think it may be from the 1930s. I don't think it's particularly valuable, but I'd like to see if I can find anything to match it. There are a few pictures on my Flickr page. I've tried Googling, but haven't found anything yet.
If I fill out all the paperwork, can I have someone else go to the DMV and hand them in to my registration and plates? [more inside]

My wife and I were recently given a set of '70s-era plates, bowls, etc. named Mikasa Checkmates (the "Butternut" line, as pictured here). I'm wondering if anyone could tell me if a) they're microwave-safe (on the bottom it reads "Oven To Table To Dishwasher") and b) if they're full of lead (as this site claims).

I recently had a pretty nasty bicycle accident and had to have two metal plates put in my forearm. I've been given the option of having another surgery around the end of the year to have them taken out, but I really want to get back to work, and to be able to ride again, so I'm seriously considering just leaving them in. Are there any downsides to that? Or conversely, if anyones chosen to have them removed, why?
We are considering buying Martinique Yellow dinnerware from Crate and Barrel. Some friends told us that they were less than impressed with the durability of Crate and Barrel plates. Obviously, the quality will differ from product to product, but if you have Crate and Barrel dinnerware, please tell me what you think about the quality.
