Attics, Televisions and Missouri Summers

New place has a lovely attic, finished but no AC up there. We're planning on having the windows open with fans in them to keep the air moving and bearable. Would it be a bad idea to have a TV (plasma) up there in the humid southeastern Missouri summer? I know most plasmas have operating humidity of up to 80 or 90%, and it can easily reach that on the worst of summer days here. Would the inside humidity be equal to that of outside with the windows open? Could some dehumidifying solution near the TV (in the middle of the room, far from the windows) prevent an untimely death of a big shiny toy?

I checked out some suggestions from this question, but I somehow doubt a few packs of silica gel would be enough to convince my partner his TV is safe.

How do we make our TV and cat compatible?

How do we stop the cat from jumping on top of the new plasma TV? Our female 1yr old cat loves to jump up on things and sit in high places. One of her favourite places is the top of the shower cubicle!

We also recently bought a new plasma, just to see her approach it tonight and try and jump on top of it! We are concerned she will scratch the screen or knock it over. We've never had much success stopping her jumping on top of things.
big plasma tv = couch potato?

A question for big-ass TV owners. Did it drastically change your TV viewing habits? I'm about to buy a big-ass TV (42' plasma) myself and I'm afraid it will turn me into a couch potato. I'd simply like to truly enjoy my beloved DVDs, play the very occasional PS2 game. But I've never been a TV junkie (just the news, some sports, and, say, a movie three nights a week on a regular 26' old skool set) and some friends tell me, based on experience, that a big-ass TV and a nice sofa can be a lethal combination. Will I end up getting 99,000 satellite/cable channels and spend all my free time entombed in front of that plasma screen?

Plasma TV Burn-In Questions

Plasma Burn-in Filter:

I have a new Plasma 42" TV. The manual has a page in the front dedicated to burn-in and how it's not covered by warranty. How worried do I need to be? And, more to the point, how careful? I watch a lot of widescreen movies that show black bars at the top and bottom of the display, and I like to play video games on the big display from time to time.

Will a day-long Half-Life tournament be visible in a year?

And will keeping the brightness turned down help to ease the problem?

I'd really like to hear from other Plasma TV owners...both those who have had this problem, and those who have avoided it.

By the way, it's a Samsung SP-P4231 that I picked up at Sam's, and it has a DVI connection to my HTPC, and a connection to my Onkyo DVD player.

Plasma TV pros/cons?

I am looking to buy a new TV, I tried the 50-in Samsung and it was too large for the room. I am thinking about the Daytek 42-in Plasma Television, but I don't really know the pros and cons of Plasma TV's. Google just seems to be full of other search engine results, so it is not very usefull for this search term.
I dont really think I need the full HDTV resolution, because I dont have HDTV, so thats not so much a problem.
I'm more interested in if they fail very quickly or other problems that might not be instantly obvious.
