So, today, for no readily apparent reason, I was visited by a very vivid memory of a toy I had as a kid, some time in the early 70's. They were these die cast metal planes with little plastic landing gear and cockpits, kind of futuristic looking, in jewel-tone colors, that you flew on a little zip line setup that involved a little gun like thing with a little deck for the plane to sit on until you released it.
Looking on Ebay reveals nothing like I remember. Anyone know what these things were called.

I remember seeing this amazing picture gallery of some guy's travels with his small plane via some link aggregating site/blog a few years ago, but can't find it now. The guy had landed his plane in all sorts of amazing landscapes (mostly in North America, I think), and taken pictures. Anybody know what I'm talking about?

How can I rotate an object in Maya while it's on a path and automatically banking? I'm currently making an animation involving a paper airplane, and I have it set to bank automatically, but I would like it to fly upside down at one point, and briefly turn on its side at another. I'm very new to paths in Maya, and whatever I try to do usually ends up making the plane rotated for the entire animation. Ideally I'd like to be able to keyframe a rotation while still having the paper plane following the path and banking normally. Is this possible?

Are there power outlets on International United Airlines flights? My mother is wanting to be able to charge her laptop on a plane ride to Bejing, and wants to know if she is able to either plug her laptop in on the flight, or bring a cigarette lighter power inverter in order to charge it. Does anyone have any input on this that I can tell her?

I bought a plane ticket, I subsequently had to cancel the flight, and now I'm stuck with a Delta voucher. I want to sell it and buy a ticket on another airline, which happens to have a much better flight to my destination. But where can I sell my ticket? I tried eBay and Points.com already.

On a recent Indian Air flight from Bangalore to Mumbai, the flight attendants requested that everyone make sure their window shades were up (so you can see out) for "safety reasons" during the landing. What is the reason for this?

My wife and I are travelling from O'Hare to Tokyo to Bangkok next week. We don't have the ability to bring our laptop, but I was wondering if there's a way to rent a DVD player for the trip -- either a service that operates out of O'Hare and NRT or BKK, or something where I could rent it for the trip, lock it up in a BKK locker, and retrieve it for the plane rides home. I'd like to transport frozen food (ice cream) and refrigerated food on an airplane from San Francisco. Is this possible? I think the optimal plan will involve dry ice for the ice cream. Where can I get it in San Francisco? [more inside]

Looking for suggestions on surviving long plane rides. I'm talking about transoceanic, 10+ hour flights. Limited Google searching has found this
. I've also read the prior question,
about sleeping. I have a laptop, mp3 player, and lots of ebooks.

When a plane crashes, what do the airlines put on the "Arrival" board in the terminal? I would assume they start with "delayed," but I have no idea what they would change that to once it's verified the plane is never going to land at that airport.

What happens if you sit in the first class cabin with a coach class ticket? I got on a plane a couple of days ago, near the end of the line. First class passengers had already boarded. A nervous, but respectably dressed man in front of me sat down in a spare, first class seat. I don't know if he had a first-class ticket or not - if he was lying, what risk was he running? Does anyone, for example, check first class tickets after boarding?
