I'm planning to fly to Peru this summer with my late 60's mother. She isn't comfortable flying alone, so I need to meet up with her in Dallas or Houston to fly the rest of the way. She lives in Texas. I live in NYC. I am considering whether it would be worth it to use a travel agent. [more inside]
Does any airline currently or previously have a seat configuration with 3 seats on each side and 5 seats in the middle? I could have sworn I was on such a plane a few years ago, but all my searching has only yielded images of 3-4-3 layouts and the proposed 3-5-3 layout for the A380.
It's been quite some time since I've been on a flight, let alone one with checked baggage. I'm going to San Antonio at the end of next month. I would appreciate some assistance regarding how this works given all the new rules and the freaking horror stories... [more inside]
Would you take your 4 month old baby on an overseas flight? We want to fly to Europe next the fall, probably an 8 hour flight from where we are. We're also having our first baby in the spring. We feel like it would be an adventure (!) that could maybe be a bad idea. Has anyone flown overseas and had it gone very well or very terribly? Anything we should know? We are trying to imagine our lives post-baby and we very much want travel to be a part of it, but is 4 months too young? [more inside]
I'm arranging a weekend away next year for about 30 people. It's a big treat for us all, so looking into how much to charter a plane. We'd be flying London to Berlin. Any ideas?

We're about to take a trip with five, 5+ hour plane journeys, none of which will have decent in flight entertainment, and are looking for inspiration of things we might do/learn in that time for entertainment? We're looking for ideas beyond general reading/podcasts/movies/sleeping, particularly since we love learning new things. [more inside]
Flying back from a small regional airport, I had the pleasure of discovering there were no more seats available on my return flight. I had booked the round trip on American Airlines through Expedia several weeks earlier. The airlines wouldn't let me check in online due to the lack of seats, and when I got to the airport they basically set me up on a much later flight the next day. Am I entitled to compensation for an overbooked flight? [more inside]

So, today, for no readily apparent reason, I was visited by a very vivid memory of a toy I had as a kid, some time in the early 70's. They were these die cast metal planes with little plastic landing gear and cockpits, kind of futuristic looking, in jewel-tone colors, that you flew on a little zip line setup that involved a little gun like thing with a little deck for the plane to sit on until you released it. Looking on Ebay reveals nothing like I remember. Anyone know what these things were called.

Early May revelry-filled weekend excursion from NYC to Montreal for a group of roughly 12 20-somethings. We see time advantages to flying (provided all goes smoothly) but cost disadvantages. We see cost advantages to driving ourselves, but would like to minimize our personal stress and maximize fun. We see personal stress and maximum fun advantages to being driven, but have no experience with long-distance transporation charter and are unclear on whether this would be cheaper than flying. Any suggestions / experiences?

I remember seeing this amazing picture gallery of some guy's travels with his small plane via some link aggregating site/blog a few years ago, but can't find it now. The guy had landed his plane in all sorts of amazing landscapes (mostly in North America, I think), and taken pictures. Anybody know what I'm talking about?

I need some well-written and very suspenseful books to take my mind off of a 25-hour flight. Donna Tartt's "The Secret History" is the ideal book, but alas, I've already read it. I also need two-person travel sized games. [more inside]
Is there a website like Kayak, but with the option to filter by the airline that operates the flight (i.e. to exclude codeshares)? Or is it possible to do this on Kayak? I have some United credit to spend, and it's proving non-trivial because I can't spend it on flights operated by Continental et al.
What items should I not forget to bring for a 15-hour flight? Also, as a non-gamer, are there iPad games you'd recommend to make the flight go faster?

Why does my lower back hurt and what can I do about it? I took a trip to Asia 2 days ago, and now while laying down my lower back (and hips) is incredibly painful, but other times it doesn't hurt. It feels like it's being pulled apart when I lay down in ANY position. It seemed like the plane trip is somehow what aggravated it.
