My husband is interviewing in Denver this week and seems to have a good shot at getting the job. We currently live in Meridian, Idaho (just outside of Boise) and have lived here practically our entire lives. I've never lived out of state, though my husband has. Help this security-needing, plan-making, organizational freak make sense of a big-for-me move! [more inside]
I have an unlocked Moto G phone and I'm looking for a good prepaid plan, for only voice and text, preferably 100 minutes and 100 texts and very cheap.
I should have probably researched this before buying the phone! I assumed I'll just look at the basic plans from major carriers and pick the cheapest talk-only plan -- but I can't even figure out which ones offer talk-only prepaid, and which ones will accept unlocked Moto G. It's amazing how hard they make it for you to give them money in exchange for service, oy. [more inside]

I had drunk but protected sex last night. (yay!) I haven't had sex since I had an abortion 2 years ago. (not so yay!) I am also dealing with secondary amenorrhea due to diet. I know I'm being insanely nervous for no reason but now just to be safe I want to take Plan B. Is this ok? Will it make the Amenorrhea "worse"? Is that even possible? So. many. things. calm me down? Every now and then I go through my inbox and clear it out. I create events in Google calendar whenever there is an item I need to address in the future. I've never been 100% happy with this non-system for reasons I can't properly define. Is there some better place to offload everything that integrates with Android and windows/any browser? I am on an AT&T family plan.
I have had an iPhone 3GS since about 2011, and just upgraded to an iPhone 5c.
I still have the 3GS.
What is the best way for me to use this phone with a monthly plan completely separate from the family plan, with any carrier?
Our daughter is on the Virgin 35/month plan. That seems pretty good. Am I hosed because this phone was locked into AT&T, or whatzers?
I'm seeking as many opinions as I can get from people with knowledge of financial advising and/or trusts & estates and/or estate planning, about what my parents (in their 80s) ought to do with their $250,000 in liquid assets. I'm NOT looking for the kind of detailed plan we'd get from an advisor whom we hire; I'm looking for short, quite general, common sense answers (such as "These ONE OR TWO types of instruments are good/bad; all others are to be avoided/considered.") I'm also looking for as many answers as I can get. In order to get that assortment of answers, I want to disclose only a very few specific things about the folks: 1. they currently rent an apartment; they do not own a home. 2. they are in their 80s--relatively healthy and can drive, shop, take care of themselves, but I'm not sure how long that'll last. I'd like to see them in a retirement community within a couple years. 3. Their only income (which doesn't amount to much) is social security. 4. They lose about $2,100 in total expenses every month. That's just about equal to what they take in each month. 5. Their one and only significant asset is a liquid $250,000. Okay, at their age, and considering all the above, WHAT IS/ARE THE MOST PRACTICAL THING(s) THEY SHOULD DO WITH THAT LUMP OF LIQUID MONEY? THANK YOU from their worried adult child with a family of my own!
I have an iPhone (an AT&T 3GS in the United States) that I no longer use. My husband wants to use it as a cellphone for very occasional outgoing and incoming calls. He is willing to find a wifi hotspot in lieu of having a data plan. We took out a 10-cent per minute, 20-cent per text plan with AT&T for $100 a year, which seemed like a good deal but he is receiving dunning calls for whoever had the phone number before, as well as advertising text messages, and we want.it.to.stop. Before we call AT&T and raise holy hell, do we have any alternatives? We would love to find a plan where we prepay a fixed (relatively small) amount, then replenish it a few months or years down the road, when he's used enough minutes/texts to require it. Y'know, something like an EZPass. Does such an animal exist?
I need a phone plan (US). All the options seem bad. Can anyone think of an option I've missed? Special snowflake details inside. [more inside]

Existing Corporate Marketing Plans [more inside]
Were doing an addition to our house, mainly a new kitchen. But included in our wish list is a set of french doors and we must move the washer and dryer to a new location outside the main house. I had a highly recommend contractor come over to take a look. After going over our "wish list" he said the way to proceed is to make a "as built" set of drawings of the property with set-backs, electrical, etc. He does the drawings work himself and charges $50 an hour. Says the entire preliminary drawing could cost up to approx. $5000.
My head hurt for awhile and I am just not clear on the best way to proceed.
I know we cannot afford all the work we want to get done.
I know we are willing to work with cabinetry from places such as IKEA or Home Depot, if that really makes a difference.
I know I want to have everything up to code and work with permits on the job.
I know my head hurts.
I started my own overview house plan using Google SketchUp and the help of this very forum, but it is very preliminary and I am not sure if I am up to making it a complete drawing with gas, elec, plumb, etc that would be necessary for the final job drawings.
What I am asking for is help on how to wrap my head around this project. Am I being naive to think that this can all be done without spending 5K on drawings alone? What else am I missing here??

Dear metafilter: I'd like to get your opinion about this eating
plan. I'm a 5'6 36 year old woman and I need to lose 20lbs to have a normal BMI. I've been strength training 4 times a week for eight weeks. I've been trying to eat only whole foods and lots of vegetables since the beginning of the year but I've not lost any weight mostly because I will eat big fatty meals at a restaurant after being good all week. I also haven't been counting calories and even though i've been eating whole foods my snacks of hummus and cheese and crackers have probably had too many calories. The only exception to the whole foods has been chocolate from the office candy jar and diet soda, which I really need to quit. [more inside]
