What's the best realistic flight simulator?

My friend's son is planning to join the Navy ROTC with the hope of becoming a pilot. What is the best computer (console?) flight simulator for the purpose of developing those skills? Are there any special peripherals to get? Is there a different answer for piloting drones than piloting traditional aircraft? Helicopters? Thanks.

How badly did I screw up my hot water heater?

My gas hot water heater's pilot light has been going out regularly. I replaced the thermocouple in an effort to solve the problem, but I seem to have botched it: Not only does the pilot light still go out after the tank is heated, but now the gas continues to flow after the pilot goes out. Natural Gas Furnace Producing a Whole Lotta Gas Smell

Last night around 5 in the morning, we woke up because it smelled like natural gas--hard. After determining it wasn't coming from the oven, I remembered groggily to check the maintenance closet in our hallway, which contains two water heaters--one for our apartment, one for the apartment next door--and the natural gas furnace that heats our apartment through vents. I think something is happening to our furnace that causes it to do this, but I don't know what; I managed to stop it, but I'm not sure how. [more inside]

A gift for the wild blue yonder

I'd like to buy a gift for a good friend who is a flight instructor (small planes, one-on-one with students); he hasn't been doing it all that long, and doesn't have a huge amount of personal equipment. Anything nice/fancy that is also incredibly useful to have that his employer wouldn't provide? Also, any iPad/iPhone accessories for pilots? Say anything up to $500 (or even a bit more) or so - though unless I was completely assured he'd love the gift, I'd prefer cheaper. Thanks!

How can I become a pilot?

I have a in-law that flies his own plane with his wife to every family event (we all live apart). I'd like to do this as well. I doubt he owns the plane. That being said, what do I have to do to be able to do this myself? I'd like to know what education/certifications I need, cost involved, and then the options for using/leasing/renting a plane for vacation travel for me and my wife.

2006 Honda Pilot Headlight Replacement

I have a 2006 Honda Pilot, and noticed that my right headlight went out. Each headlight is comprised of two headlights, a top and bottom one. The top one seems to be working, but the bottom one is out. The top bulb is easy to replace, but the bottom one is a little bit more tricky, as there doesn't seem to be an easy way to remove it. Can anyone point me to a schematic or something? I think the replacement bulb size is H11, I just don' t understand how to replace the lower bulb.

Help me identify this photograph. The form I have it in is cut from a magazine (or similar) and then glued to a piece of sturdy paper, the person I got it from doesn't remember where she got it. I just think it's a really nice picture and wonder if it'd be possible to get a better quality version somewhere. I've tried googling around, but to no avail.

So far, all I've come up with is the following: AF607105 - Charlotte Gainsbourg (even if it does involve a crash, it's lovely) Learning to Fly - Pink Floyd Come Fly with Me - Frank Sinatra Anyone have any ideas? What is the name and method of the military theorist who had a 4-part(?) hueristic for fighter pilots?

Sometime in the last 2 years (I think!) there was a meme going around about a military theorist (from the 50's?) who came up with a rule set for fighter pilots. The idea was a fighter pilot was supposed to go around and around with these four(?) rules. Something like "assess / analyze / ?? / shoot" or something! Does anyone know who this is is, where I can get more info and the precise rule set?
