Ok probably sounds disgusting, but I just have a theoretical interest in this ever since I moved to my new apt with a balcony frequent by the flying rat kind.
I don't have time in the morning but I frequently spray some bleach water solution on the pigeon feces to scrape off later, and then I was wondering what chemically happens to the feces (or well, anything organic that contains pathogens and bacteria) when soaked in bleach.
Are the soaked feces on the railing theoretically "clean" and sanitized? What happens??? What is left over? I don't intend to leave them there, just curious.
BTW: any tips to keep pigeons away while at it? We covered all the balcony railings in reflective tape. It looks like a camp, silver palace now, but they still like it.

I'm trying to find a reference to a story I heard of, possibly here but maybe not. It was about a society of pigeon owners that had a voting scheme that worked along the lines of PageRank, where the value of your vote was based on the number of other members voting for you, calculated recursively. It was an old system, possibly around the French Revolution. My Google-Fu is completely failing me. Does any of this ring any bells?

I got curious about this after reading a blog article on pigeons and face recognition
. What colors does a pigeon see in other pigeons? I see pigeons with white, black, and grey bands and patches, sometimes with iridescence in the neck. The wikipedia entry for bird vision says they have pentachromatic vision. [more inside]

Today I was at Boston Common eating lunch, and observed a fairly large group of pigeons all acting in the same bizarre way. For upwards of half an hour (and despite no obvious bread-throwers), a group of 50 or so pigeons was tearing around the park at great speed and low altitude, stopping for frequent and very intense fights on the ground over nonexistent food. PigeonFilter: The neighbor across the small alleyway (4th floor, nyc apartment) feeds the pigeons several times a day and lets them in to their apartment, resulting in crowds of dozens of pigeons around our windows at all hours. Now the pigeons have built a large nest on our window air conditioner, with an egg. What to do about A) the nest and B) the neighbor? [more inside]

I live in Phoenix. There are all these pigeons around, including a flock that sits on my roof most days. It seems like I should be able to eat them once in a while. What would be some issues I might need to consider before doing that? [more inside]

What are the words to this Sesame Street Song?
- We hear "Everybody loves [something], as sure as [something] loves [something], and googling for lyrics isn't helping fill in the blanks.
