I need a pickup truck that is: a) 4-wheel drive / AWD ; b) is a crew cab (we have a child who needs to ride in a carseat; and c) does not get incredibly crappy gas mileage. What do I want? [more inside]

If I pick up a rental car at the airport, can another family member then drop it off for me even though they weren't with me at the time of pickup?
Second, can that other family member also be allowed to drive the car even though they weren't with me at the time of pickup?

My '08 F-150 likely needs a different engine. I do not want an engine out of a wreck or from the junk yard or one rebuilt by a local shop. I am looking for a remanufactured engine. Does anyone have any experience with or insight into the quality difference between a Jasper
Remanufactured engine versus a Ford Factory remanufactured
engine? [more inside]

So i am about to buy my very first vehicle and am pretty excited about the whole deal. My budget is no more than 5k and I am looking to get me a used small pickup truck. It seems like my best options are either a T100, Tacoma, frontier or a b2500. Are those considered reliable used pick ups? What kind of year/mileage y'all think 5k could bring? I am thinking a 2000 with about 120000 miles. Does that seems reasonable?
The truck should be very reliable and could take some abuse, I don't really care about towing much because it will be used mainly for tools.
I know VERY little about cars and mechanics and wouldn't even know the first thing to look out for when looking at a potential truck... I've been told to insist on a clean title, see that the engine and transmission are in good order, and pass it by a reliable mechanic. Anything else?
Thank you for your time!

I want to buy a Toyota Hilux
and get it licensed to drive in LA, CA. I have two questions: What mechanical problems should I look for when buying this specific truck (2WD, 22R engine, early 90's model)? What should I look out for when trying to license it in California? I'm shopping on Craigslist. [more inside]

Help us diagnose our Ford F150: what could be draining down the (new) battery overnight? We're suddenly seeing apparent battery drainage in our pickup truck, a 1994 Ford F150. Though the truck starts up fine, the dashboard battery gauge reads low immediately upon ignition, the windshield wipers are sluggish, and the dashboard lights are dim. We thought the old battery was likely dying, so we had it replaced with a new battery... but that hasn't solved the problem. [more inside]

I'm heading up to Boston from Philadelphia tonight, and I need to pick up someone who lives in Brooklyn. How can I get them to a rest stop or exit? Can they take public transportation to somewhere that I could easily grab them without having to go that far out of my way, and definitely without going into New York?

What does UPS Ground charge for a one-time pickup at my house if I don't have an account? And is it a per-pickup or per-package charge? I have wasted an hour trying to figure this out on their website, and their cost calculator isn't clear either. I seem to remember about 5 years ago pickups were free but you had to get on the next day's schedule.

I was just reading about how those massive, gas-hogging Ford F-350 etc pickup trucks are the bestselling "cars" in the United States, by a huge margin. While this seems absurd during $3 a gallon gas, I wonder when this started becoming the case that pickup trucks were the top sellers. This is just anecdotal, but it seems to me that in the 1970s the only people who drove the then quite smaller pickup trucks were people who used them for work. I can't quite believe there are that many independent contractors in the US who need to buy these outsized vehicles. As they suffer (most seemingly quite rightfully) at the pump, does anyone know where to find historical car sales data -- i.e., when did Ford pickups become the most popular car in America?

I'm having problems with an 87' Nissan truck (5-speed). Recently when its been sitting for a day or so, me engine doesn't want to turn over at all when I turn the key and all I get is this "click" sound that is identical to how my old car sounded when my alternator went out. The thing is, if I turn the key a few times, it'll start and its fine for the rest of the day when I try to start the car. This "clicking" thing has happened a few times now, and I don't think its the battery (lights and everything work perfectly, and no problems with engine turning over when no click sound). Any ideas what might be wrong (gut instant says alternator is going, but just seeing if any other ideas).
