Where to play piano for free in NYC just once? A out-of-town friend wants to play piano in NYC: are there public spaces with pianos? A way to play at a church? (And note: I just mean play for playing sake, not play for an audience.)

[Wodehouse Quote Filter] Need the exact quotation for a paper. It's Wodehouse I'm sure, but only vaguely remember which character said it or the verbatim of the thing. It's about playing the Piano.

Classical Music Filter: Can anyone recommend pieces of classical piano music in a similar style to the
Sonatica by Bear McCreary from Battlestar Galactica? I have some Olivier Messiaen stuff in a similar vein but would love more in the same mellow, slightly offkilter and whistful piano style. Thanks!

Given that I have a somewhat substantial history playing the piano, how difficult would it be to take up lessons for the piano again after years out of practice AND start, for the first time, lessons on the Violin? How beneficial would such "cross training" be? How difficult would it be to find a teacher who could guide me on such a hybrid path? Other Thoughts?

Where in Toronto can I find a good secondhand upright piano?
My question would have been more complex, but I got the rest of the advice I needed from this great thread, so don't feel obligated to advise me on how to appraise one, move it, or to tune it after I get it home, etc.

Help me identify this mystery track from my friends' mix CD, that he can't recall either. No sample available, yet! It's more than likely a movie score track. Cross between
1941, Elfman, Zimmer,
Willow, and involves kazoos in places.

I love the piano in Piazzolla's "Oblivion" -- and I like arrangements/recordings that focus on that part of the piece. I'd like to find an MP3/CD with such a recording.
This is the closest thing I've been able to find so far.

Have you ever seen a portable
digital piano - not merely a controller - with graded hammer action but fewer than 88 keys? Some of the big music stores have told me that they don't know of any. (Counter-examples: The Studiologic VMK-161 Plus is a controller with 61-key hammer action, but it has no internal sounds. The Yamaha YPG-225/DGX-220 is a 76-key piano/synth but apparently doesn't have hammer action.) Thanks.

Does anyone know a place where I can play piano in Brooklyn? I am living in Cobble Hill until August, and am looking for a place to keep in practice. I was bumming out at the Brooklyn Conservatory of Music for a while, but it's not too convenient to travel to and it's pricey ($15/hr.) I am not a classical player, so don't need a place for hours a day. In fact, I would be happy with two hours or so a week.
