Seeking software for scanning old paper photos into digital format. I'm hoping to find something that will automatically crop to borders of the photo so I don't need to manually crop every one in Photoshop. Bonus points if it will automatically resize all the scanned images into a specific resolution size. [more inside]

A few days ago, I unknowingly spilled water on a pile of old photo prints that I am planning on scanning. They dried, and now, as a result, the bottom twenty are stuck together. How can I separate the prints without tearing or otherwise ruining them? If that is impossible, I still have the negatives somewhere; how can I best scan negatives into a regular flatbed scanner?

My dad has many boxes of the photographs he took during college 30 years ago. After completing my freshman year, I have equally as many digital pictures saved on my computer. While I would love to make 1500 prints, that isn't very plausible. What's the best way to preserve these pictures and make them easily accessible and viewable in the future? (I might be able to choose 200 or so to make the most accessible and viewable.)

I backed up all of my iPhoto library onto my iPod (by using the iPod as a hard drive) in anticipation of a Mac hospital system reinstallation. Legal boffins! I paid a photographer a few hundred pounds to shoot some of my sculptures. No contracts were exchanged, and no agreements were made about where the photos would be used. Now a magzine would like to use these photos in a forthcoming issue! Awesome. But the photographer says I don't have a license to allow a third-party to publish these. Is he right? Do I own the photos or does he? I don't have the pieces any more so can't get another set of photos made... Am I screwed? Thanks guys :) PS: I'm in the UK if that makes a difference...
Can somebody help me identify this ancient lab equipment? I'm doing some research and have posted two photos to my flickr account, here and here. (PS, I know what the typewriter is!) Thanks!

I have thousands of photographs of the insides of closets, refrigerators, cabinets, medicine chests, etc., all of which have a decent amount of demographic data attached to each photo. I have a website and blog I created with iweb on my mac. However, I cannot figure out how to put pictures in my blog posts- besides the one that there is already a spot for. So far I have added pictures by putting them on the actual page, behind the text box, but then they aren't visible in the RSS feed. How do I do this?

I need to shoot a series of photos of my hands. I've got a good digital camera (that takes good photos, generally), I've got a Gorilla flexible tripod. I have a nicely painted wall or two to serve as backdrop...including one near a window where light shines in directly onto that wall. But while I'm not sure why this would be so challenging (I don't need GREAT results, just reasonably good ones), I can't get anything decent looking at all. [more inside]
