I have a slew of photographs that I no longer want and would like to donate them if any folks can use them. I have tried art schools, public libraries, CraigsList, etc. to no avail. They are mostly snapshots of scenic views that I can no longer identify. Anyone know of any collage / multimedia artists, or organizations that utilize snapshots and will accept donations? Thanks in advance.

Where can I find artsy public domain snapshots from the 1960s-1970s (think the stuff you would find in bins at garage sales) that I could use on an album cover? more inside [more inside]

What is a good photo sharing solution for people with accounts in the same Google Apps domain (e.g., my-school.com)? I'd rather not have to invite each user individually. I'd like to be able to set up authentication so they can post and view photos if Google asserts their identity is firstname.lastname@example.org. [more inside]

So I love this image, and want to use it for an art project. It's old, so I'm pretty sure it's public domain. I'll find out.
But meanwhile, does anyone know where I can find a hi-res image file of this photo?
I tried emailing that website, but no dice.

Flickr is perfectly fine, but I hate that it switches up photo URLs/servers, so photos I post on my blog turn into 'photo not available.' Since that's what I mainly use it for, it's getting to be a pain. What do I switch to? [more inside]

So, I have a little Wordpress site on Media Temple for photos. Nothing else, just photos. No blog posts, no comments, etc. It's occurred to me that it's really a static site. And static sites can be hosted on Amazon S3.
I can handle building the site locally and moving it up to S3. But, I'm wondering about updates. It seems to me that if I build a site locally, publish it to S3, that I can do updates by synching S3 with my local file system. Right?
Has anyone done this? Are there apps specifically geared to publishing and maintaining sites on S3?

I have an older Canon inkjet printer (ip8500) that has been very reliable. However, it really gripes my tush every time I have to pay a fortune for replacement cartridges that don’t seem to last much past the time they come out of their wrapper. [more inside]

Probably a perennial question, but stuff changes. I'm looking for recommendations for a host for a non-pro photo site. I've used Fiickr, SmugMug, and ZenFolio. I'm after a host that allows me to muck about with design, CSS and HTML, etc., but doesn't compel mr to admin servers or
worry about installing security updates remotely.
I can admin a server, but, you know, life's too short. Shared host is probably the best bet, but I'd look at renting a slice of a managed server.
Basically, I just wanna build a site that looks like i want, upload photos, and be done with it.

I'm taking a road trip through a really scenic area of the US
and I want to go beyond boring vacation photos. My skill level is somewhere between taking snapshots at the family reunion and taking artsy photos of flowers and trees. I'm no Ansel Adams. I'm looking for cool projects to undertake, especially if they can later be incorporated into maps or timelines or video. [more inside]

Using various relatively cheap adaptors, zoom lenses and lens-reversal rings (the greatest thing that ever happened to Nikon dSLRs!), I had fun taking lots of pictures of really tiny things with my previous cameras. However, now I have a Sony NEX-5k which, for its wonderful optics, great features and excellent resolution doesn't seem to have anything that I can find to do the same type of work. Can anyone recommend a hack or accessory that will let me take more pics like those I used to
(or even of smaller things!)?

I'm trying to figure out what services are good for scanning a large number of family photos.
We have about 60 photo albums, some with photos marked on the back with descriptions, and we want to scan them and keep them somewhat organized so we can view and print them.
So I think we have somewhere 3000 photos and I want to know if these online places do what they say on the tin, if some are better than others, etc. We are in the US, California.
What services do this, and how do I make sure I get the originals back, and the photos get metadata added to them if it's there?

So, I have nearly a terabyte of photos of my daughter stored on a computer which has been taken over by tr/crypt.xpack.gen (if that is your real name). It would probably be best that I store the photos on some sort of server somewhere (clouds?), but I know nothing of such things. Any advice on online storage, computer security, and not shooting in raw would be greatly appreciated. Please help, as we would rather not have to force my daughter back in the womb to recreate the photos of her birth. [more inside]
