I'm looking for an affordable, but still good quality camera to use for nighttime shots. My current camera is a Canon SD1000, which has an incredibly good macro mode, and takes decent pictures otherwise, but the nighttime mode leaves much to be desired. [more inside]

I have photos from two consecutive years, in which my brother was 6 mos - 18 mos. I can group the photos somewhat by clothing or activity - but can I separate them into the two years at all reliably? I know nothing about child development, and can't tell myself from looking at the faces. [more inside]

A few days ago, I unknowingly spilled water on a pile of old photo prints that I am planning on scanning. They dried, and now, as a result, the bottom twenty are stuck together. How can I separate the prints without tearing or otherwise ruining them? If that is impossible, I still have the negatives somewhere; how can I best scan negatives into a regular flatbed scanner?

My dad has many boxes of the photographs he took during college 30 years ago. After completing my freshman year, I have equally as many digital pictures saved on my computer. While I would love to make 1500 prints, that isn't very plausible. What's the best way to preserve these pictures and make them easily accessible and viewable in the future? (I might be able to choose 200 or so to make the most accessible and viewable.)

Legal boffins! I paid a photographer a few hundred pounds to shoot some of my sculptures. No contracts were exchanged, and no agreements were made about where the photos would be used. Now a magzine would like to use these photos in a forthcoming issue! Awesome. But the photographer says I don't have a license to allow a third-party to publish these. Is he right? Do I own the photos or does he? I don't have the pieces any more so can't get another set of photos made...
Am I screwed? Thanks guys :)
PS: I'm in the UK if that makes a difference...

Can somebody help me identify this ancient lab equipment? I'm doing some research and have posted two photos to my flickr account, here and here. (PS, I know what the typewriter is!) Thanks!
