Using various relatively cheap adaptors, zoom lenses and lens-reversal rings (the greatest thing that ever happened to Nikon dSLRs!), I had fun taking lots of pictures of really tiny things with my previous cameras. However, now I have a Sony NEX-5k which, for its wonderful optics, great features and excellent resolution doesn't seem to have anything that I can find to do the same type of work. Can anyone recommend a hack or accessory that will let me take more pics
like those I used to (or even of smaller things!)?

I'm looking for an affordable, but still good quality camera to use for nighttime shots. My current camera is a Canon SD1000, which has an incredibly good macro mode, and takes decent pictures otherwise, but the nighttime mode leaves much to be desired.

I need to shoot a series of photos of my hands. I've got a good digital camera (that takes good photos, generally), I've got a
Gorilla flexible tripod. I have a nicely painted wall or two to serve as backdrop...including one near a window where light shines in directly onto that wall. But while I'm not sure why this would be so challenging (I don't need GREAT results, just reasonably good ones), I can't get anything decent looking at all.

What caused the light to do the weird radial effect in
my picture? I'm guessing it's the UV HAZE filter I leave over my lens?
Does the effect have a name? Like some weird form of "blooming"?
Shot with a Canon Rebel XTi with a 28-135mm USM IS, 6 second exposure.

I'm helping my mother buy a digital camera for her extended trip to Thailand and have exhausted dpreview.com and the various other review sites. I need real-people recommendations: she wants something with decent resolution (at least 3 mp; I hope for 4 or better); under $300 hopefully; decent battery life (we tried a Nikon Coolpix but the batteries didn't last long enough - the Canon Powershot s50 batteries lasted for 200 shots and lots of flash, but the camera is just out of her price range); compact flash, since I have a number of cards for her, and ease of use. And it has to work with an older iMac with os9. Any ideas?
