What is this real life diorama called? Kind of like a frozen scene from a play.

What is this 'live photograph' called? I'm forgetting what this experience/event is called. The basic idea is actors posing in a scene - they're not moving, and I believe the 'audience' can move around and through these posed people. It is kind of like a real life diorama; I believe it was from the late 19th century; the term itself may be French; I'm making myself crazy trying to find this. [more inside]

Help Feed my Photo habit.

I'm looking for blogs that are focused on linking to good, interesting photos. The type of photo doesn't really matter. Photojournalism and fine art, landscapes, nature, street, wildlife, etc are all great (oversaturated stock photos that look like they belong on inspirational posters are not great). I'm not looking for blogs that feature the work of a single photographer. I am looking for blogs that express the POV of one person or a small group of people about what they find interesting. Too many Nikon choices! Help!

dSLRfilter: Which Nikon should I buy? D40, D50, or D70s? I've been thinking of purchasing a dSLR for some time now, and I'm seriously thinking of buying one very soon, but I can't seem to make up my mind. My body budget is limited since decent glass costs a lot of money, so I'm looking at a new D40 or a refurb D50 or D70s. [more inside]

8"x12" photo frames and mats

Where do you buy mats and frames for 8"x12" prints? I have several photographs that I would not like to crop to any of the other "standard" ratios (5"x7", 8"x10" or square.) I would like to print these larger than 4"x6". I realize that making my own mats and frames is an option but I would like to find some good and not-too-expensive sources that I can order from. Thanks for your help!

Best online photo printing service?

Which is the best online photo printing service? This was asked two years ago, but things may have changed. My priorities would be: archival quality prints; good service; and reasonable prices, in that order. Most ideal would be a Canadian service, but a second choice would be a U.S. service that mentions that they ship to Canada with reasonable fees.

If I have admin access to a server, can I be accused of computer misuse?

I am a photographer. My photographs are currently on a website that I used to work with but have since had a disagreement. I own the copyright to my images and would like the website to remove them. They are being very slow in their response as removing the images will create very negative publicity for them. I have maintained their website for the last 4 years and have full admin access to their dedicated server. If I log in and remove my images, could I be accused of misuse of computers? [more inside]

Help me find this website, if it still exists. A few years ago I ran acroos s beautiful site that had either a week by week or month by month imagery of a fetus in utero, and described what was going on as it grew. The imagery took up the whole page and was black and white. It was really breathtaking.

Looking for a specific, well known photo of Yorkshire

Looking for a photo/photographer I saw in a documentary a few years back. It was a black and white shot taken in the 1950's/60's and featured a typical small Yorkshire (or at least northern UK) village on a steep hillside at night. It was a long exposure and the glowing street and window lights illuminated the buildings and made for a very striking scene against the black sky and surrounding hills. [more inside]
