The image on the left side of
zeus.com shows a photo of a man with some sort of optical effect partially overlying his head. Any ideas on what caused this? Both a name and a simple explanation if possible?
Suggestions I've heard so far include lens flare or reflections on an intervening pane of glass but noone seems entirely sure of it.

Got a Kodak Brownie, looks good. Cleaned out the gunk on the lens (looked like battery corrosion wtf?), tried to slap some 120mm film in there. For some reason, it's too damned tight, and I'm afraid of ripping the film when I advance it. Anyone had this problem?

As a pretty prolific photographer and new blogger, I want to make my photos an important part of my Typepad basic blog. I'm looking for some kind of service that will let me upload my photos and then create some kind of (ideal) RSS feed or (less ideal) HTML code that I can put on my blog to show the 20 most recent photos or so. I need control over the feed or code to make the thumbnails or images the size I want to fit in the design. I've tried flickr and I'm less than impressed by the inability to change the size of the photos in the feed. I don't want to use a flickr badge - I want the user to see all the photos as they read my blog entries. I'd also like to prevent having large amounts of added "ads" on top of my photos advertising the service I'm using to provide the photos.

I'm looking at constructing a large lightbooth for photography out of supplies found around the house. A friend of mine suggested using sheets and flood lights as reflectors and diffusers which seems like a pretty good idea. I was wondering if anyone has had any experience with this and what have you found to work best?

I hear that the path one takes while climbing Mt. Everest is littered with the dead bodies of people who have failed in their attempts to summit (
1,
2,
3). The
wikipedia artcle alludes to the fact that the bodies are "...easily visible from the standard climbing routes."
Well... I've seen a ton of shots of the summit, so I know they've taken cameras up the sonofabitch. And I know something about the morbid human fascination with his impermanence. So the thing I'd like to know is... where are the pictures?

Why do digital SLRs have no shutter lag and digital P&Ss (even expensive ones) have a bad case of it? What's the technical reason I mean (I am not an engineer)? In fact, most people who still don't like digital mention shutter lag as a major problem of digital photography. Thanks.

Methods of Documentation: Getty My Work Onto Slide Film
Next weekend I am participating in an art show, my first in which work will be for sale, and because for one thing, I hung a piece in the silent auction, I have reason to believe I will sell at least one thing. (I have sold work before on commission, but this is still pretty exciting.)
I would like to have, in the future, in my portfolio, slides of any sold work. I do not have a tremendous budget but I'd rather spend a bit of cash than not have documentation of early sold work.
What method should I use to get my paintings and soforth onto slides? (See extended explanation).
Thanks much. I've got until the weekend to figure this out.

PhotographyFilter: any tips for posed/staged portraits of two people at once? I need to take a formal portrait of two female friends (not a couple), and am looking for general advice on how to pose two people such that they look comfortable and natural together. Links to classic or contemporary photographers who do this well would also be helpful.

Ideally it would briefly cover using SLR and be more detailed on this particular camera. I don't really need anything on picture editing or the basics.

I have noticed (and other people have commented that they have seen this too) that when I take pictures with my Nikon D70 I tend to get what seems to be a haze or fuzziness on the pictures. They are still crisp but have a diffused light feeling to them. I have tried several lenses as well as removing my uv filter and nothing seems to help. Has anyone ever seen anything like this? It is very frustrating…
