Selling my photo of someone else's art

Someone has asked to license a photo I took of someone else's art. I have no right to the artist's work; I took the photo at a museum. I have no intention of licensing my photo unless and until appropriate arrangements are made with the artist and museum. How to proceed? [more inside]

Bonus points if you can help me avoid looking like a Geocities site.

I am an amateur photographer with 1) a subscription-based online portfolio, 2) a desire to take more control over my site, 3) a sense of reckless abandon, and 4) virtually no experience with, or understanding of, the inner workings of the modern internet. I'd like a really simple site on my domain to hold galleries of my images and a blog. Can I get there from here? How? [more inside]

Digital Storage Advice?

My Lightroom catalog is finally hitting the terabyte mark, which means I either need to double what I'm doing now (internal 1TB drive, which is backed up to an external 1TB drive) or something different. Any tips on how to manage large digital image collections? [more inside]

Next week: What was that site with photos of librarians on drugs?

I've been trying to re-discover two websites that I've found before but have now utterly lost. One was a photo gallery of people in drug-induced altered states, and the other was a repository of name pronunciations curated by librarians. [more inside]

She's ready for her close-up.

My mom has discovered acting in her retirement, and wants me to shoot a headshot for her. I can shoot a portrait fine (gear and technique), but I have no idea what to do for an actor's headshot. Can someone in the business tell me what you'd want from a headshot for an older woman? [more inside]

Have camera, will travel.

I just realized that I have 7 vacation days from 2009 that I need to use before the end of March or I will lose them. I'm considering taking a "destination" photo class somewhere for all or part of that time. I've already checked out the offerings at the Maine Media Workshop, but none of them really set my heart aflame. [more inside]

Photo Workflow Tips?

Any good tips on digital workflows in Lightroom for large groups of images? Really, any input on the photo editorial process (whether it be film or other software) would be much appreciated. [more inside]
