This travel advisory from the State Department website, dated 1998, states that the use of GPS units is highly regulated in Russia and that it is risky to bring one unless it is fully documented. Now, GPS units are a lot more common today than they were in 1998. Do I really have to worry about this? I am planning a multi-country trip and I could mail myself the GPS ahead of time to my post-Russia destination if I had to. I am an amateur photographer and I use the unit to tag the location of photos I have taken.

My wife was contacted by an ad agency asking to use a photo she took and hosts on flickr on their client's website. They offered to credit her with the photo on the site. I've read
previously on mefi about photos used for print and posters but not for feature on a website for a corporate client of the agency.
Is this standard practice? Should she worry about her rights to the photo? More inside...

I've read through the AskMe archives, and I didn't really find an answer to my question. We found a photo on Flickr that we want to use as a banner on the site for our new production of a play that is in the public domain. I've mocked up the banner and tried to contact the owner of the photo. . . but what if she doesn't contact us back?

I have iPhoto2 on my Mac but after 3.5 years I find it pretty lame, so I decided to buy iPhoto6: but then I found out it comes bundled with iLife 06, ie 7 Gb of other programs I don't really want or need. I have about 11 Gb of free disk space. Is there a way to find a simple copy of iPhoto6 or, say, even iPhoto4? It should be about 600-700 Mb, I suppose. thanks!
