Fixing My Photography Workflow So It Will Work For Me

I am in the market for a new Nikon DSLR, but my home laptop/photo workflow situation is sadly out of date and not working for me. Should I consider an iPad for a main photo workflow solution, now that I could get a DSLR with wireless capability? Lots of snowflakes inside. [more inside]

Explain to me a point-and-shoot's wide depth of field

Digital point-and-shoots have a very wide depth of field. I've been explained this is because of the tiny sensor size. But film P&S have very wide depth of field too, despite being "full frame." My guess is because of the lens distance to film and small aperture. Is this correct? Say, if I frankenmount a film P&S lens to a DSLR would I get the same wide depth of field of a P&S?

What lenses should I get for a Pentax K5 II?

I'm looking at buying a used Pentax K5 II as my main camera rig. The most important use of this camera will be for documenting fieldwork, including photographing specimens in the field. I'd like to have a small selection of quality lenses that will cover me for most situations. I've been doing research, but there are so many options that it's hard for me to decide. Can you help me? Help me find a good older model DSLR

Hi all. I'm thinking of upgrading my camera from a bridge/superzoom to a proper DSLR. My budget is pretty small and it's likely to see some pretty rough use, so I probably don't want to get anything new. I think I have a pretty good idea of my requirements, but navigating the world of obsolete DSLRs is a bit complicated for me so I would appreciate your recommendations. [more inside]

This blog post has inspired me take better photos of people without spending a fortune. I'd like your advice on books, websites, and other resources to help me get the best photos. All aspects of photography are helpful: operating the camera, composing photos, and post-processing. Macro Photography for Beginners

I have discovered the joy of taking photos of teensy, tiny things - like baby snails! - and would like to move beyond my cellphone's camera. Since this is a hobby, not a new career path, I'd like to spend as little as possible, and definitely remain well-under $1,000 (CAD), while getting great results. Any advice?
