take me to your leader

What are the good independent music/arts/entertainment/hipster websites in your city? Is there a site in your large- to medium-sized city that fits these criteria:
* not affiliated with a print version (Onion, city paper, etc)
* not affiliated with a network in other cities of some kind like Gothamist or Yahoo
* not in NYC or Los Angeles for various complex reasons
* are totally awesome

and that you might turn to for most of the things listed below:

1. music and concert reviews
2. entertainment calender and preview of events
3. movie, tv, food or theater reviews
4. obnoxiously fashionable photographs of shows, dance-parties and events
5. other quirky articles about local goings-on
6. discussion of other current topics on the web or in the world of pop culture

I'm asking because I work for one like this in DC and want to find out if we're all alone or if there are sister sites out there in places like Minneapolis, etc, with which we can communicate. So if you've heard of one but never used it I'd appreciate the tip even if yr not sure of its quality. I have read this thread, but there aren't many choices in there which fit the criteria.

Thank you.

I need a gallery script that isn't retarded.

I have a lot of photos on my blog that I want to put into a gallery, but there are so many that I don't want to deal with reuploading them somewhere or installing a feature-creepy (I just made that up!) gallery script and putting them all into it. They're all in a big messy directory on my server, so is there a very simple script that will look in the directory for anything that's a JPG and spit it out in gallery format? Or, if you know PHP: I could probably write the thing myself, but what would the code for "look in /directoryx/, put all filenames into this array" look like?

Photoblog feedback?

I'm starting a photoblog, and I'm really motivated by feedback. I used to have an Expressions site, which was a now-defunct photoblog hosting service. What was really great about it was that there was a built-in community and, when you posted a new photo, it would be on their front page for a time. Because of that, I was getting comments from the first pic I posted. Is there anything like that now?

What was this photoblog?

What was this photoblog? Club and party photos. Some NSFW. Very raw and realistic. Some celebrities at the events. The last time I visited it, it said that it was just an archive now, and wouldn't be updated anymore. The photos looked a lot like if Terry Richardson was to shoot candid party pictures. I'm not looking for The Cobrasnake.

The nav was just bunches of thumbs grouped by event. HUNDREDS of pictures.

I seem to remember it being called out on the blue, but not as a FPP. Perhaps in a comment.

In any case, my search-fu is weaksauce today, and after a good half-hour on the MeFi search and the Goog, I can't seem to come up with the site I remember.

Oh, SNAP!

PhotoBlogFilter: Tips on starting a photo journal? Oh, snap! There's I've been in love with photography for ages, and am trying to work on honing my skills without just taking loads of meaningless photos. I've also tried to commit myself to blogging every other day- but that's never worked in the past. I thought a photo diary might be a great way to combine them both, so I though I'd ask for tips here- What do you guys thing the most interesting things to look at are? This diary wouldn't include pictures of me (since I'm obviously the ninja behind the camera) but I'd like to be able to tell a story about my day without using words if at all possible, save for a couple of place captions. Also, how can I commit myself to my every other day regime? I figured AskMeFi would know, if anyone would. Thanks in advance, guys, and please give me any other tips you can think of, or words of wisdom.

photoblog with movable type, help.

What are good sites/resources for figuring out how to customize MovableType templates for photoblogs? I'm finding it difficult without a WYSIWYG editor, or photoblog templates to base it on. I am interested in the non-scrolling one-photo-a-day blogs with simple menus, and archives that are sortable by category, like dailysnap, owl and dragon, and EXP.

Best Photo Blog?

I want to set up a photoblog, preferably within or in conjuction with my Blogger blog. I thought that Google recently acquired a company that might be doing this in the future, any word? If this is unlikely, what are the best alternatives? What if I don't care if it works well with Blogger, is there anything that is good and free that can serve my needs?

CSS issues with IE

CSS issues with IE. I'm working on a draft for my new photoblog and IE seems to be rendering part of it about 2 pixels off, but I cannot figure out quite why. Here's the page in question. It shows up fine in Mozilla, but in IE the logo and unordered list menu on the right are pushed to the right about 2 pixels, running over the border. I thought I just needed to use the "box model hack," but when I tried that it didn't work. Any tips? Also: Before anyone starts in with "gee this looks familiar..." I do freely admit the initial code and stylesheet are from Matt Haughey's Ten Years of My Life - This is just a draft at this point and I'm still playing with it to tweak it and make it my own. (Just trying to head off any accusations of design stealing, cuz I know many folks are sensitive about that. I'm just using this as a starting place for now. Hope that's ok.)

Are there any NYC photologs that DONT feature Brooklyn ?

Are there any NYC photologs that DONT feature Brooklyn ? Im looking for a non-brooklyn-centric photolog out there somewhere , I mean really , calling yourself an nyc photolog and taking one photo of harlem while youre passing through on the train is simply not enough and extremely unrepresentative of NYC, I am madly in love with harlem and would love any links to photologs of that fine area if at all possible.
