Hi, my company has an online photo database I normally login with Chrome to view. I can't see any of the image preview thumbnails today for some reason and it's making me crazy. I've tried some different things and I'm out of ideas. Maybe you can help? [more inside]
At some point in the mid-late 80's, someone snapped a pic of Neil Young wearing an Antone's nightclub shirt. The only version I can find on the internet is very low res & without attribution. [more inside]
In NYC I'd get photo prints made at the 117th Costco, which had better quality (and yes, ICC profiles are available) than some of the photolabs where I've worked. Looking for my options in Chicago. [more inside]
What is the best color printer for the following use case: photos up to 5x7 of patients pre/post operation. The images will not be used for diagnosis so there is no requirement for ultra-high-quality, but the images must still be decent. Must be Mac compatible. We cannot use a professional lab as the images will be confidential. Not sure what kind of spend is required here but I'd be surprised if there wasn't something suitable under $500.
We're looking for iconic/popular images of people having fun and want to photoshop in a crying kid (all in good fun!). What are your suggestions? [more inside]
Is there a term for the type of portrait that contains two angles of the same person's face in the same photo? I'm thinking of this style (Will Ferrell). Another example here. These were really popular in the 70s and 80s. I want to get one of the style portraits taken but I don't even know how to describe it, or how to search for it. Does anyone know a name for this style, or even a way to explain it? Also, have you ever seen it being offered these days, and if so, where? I have seen these previous Askme's (1, 2) but they don't really help. Also my google-fu is useless except for that Will Ferrell portrait.
Can anyone recommend a program that reliably thumbnails photos and videos? [more inside]
I have a very old photo of a family member, Edward Mackintosh, who died during the First World War in the Quintinshill Rail Disaster. As far as I know it is the one remaining photo of him. Sadly it is in very poor condition. It is in a locket (photo) and has adhered to the glass. We're fairly certain that it isn't glued, but it has been worn my my Mum for many years and has suffered dampness and perfume etc, which has caused it to stick. I'd really like to take a good quality (or best possible) scan of the photo to give to my Grandfather. Is there any way to achieve this? Ideally I'd remove the photo from the glass so I could take it to a local photo shop for scanning. But if that's the wrong approach I'm happy to take advice!
There is an interesting photograph on the wall of my chemistry tutor's classroom. The photo was on the wall when he rented the room, so he does not know its provenance, and my searches have yet to turn up a source. Can you help me figure out where it comes from? [more inside]
I need to tag/organize a large number of photos taken on a daily basis by a group of construction inspectors. Preferably something Windows-based and that would prompt the tagging/naming immediately after the photos are taken. [more inside]
I recently purchased an online deal for a boudoir photo shoot after checking it out on Yelp and seeing that the company had decent reviews. I have some privacy concerns. [more inside]
My fiancée and I want to have our engagement photos done. Rather than pose in front of scenic backdrops, we'd like to have photos taken in front of a green screen, then have vistas from video games that are special to us inserted behind us. For instance, in the finished product, we're in front of the castle from Super Mario 64 or a Paris nightclub from Sly Cooper. Is this something that professional photographers can/will do? I know there's green screen photo places, but will they add the game backgrounds that we provide? Are there licensing/copyright issues in play that will get in the way of this?
What do you call those images where each "pixel" is made up of a tiny photo? Usually the subphotos are thematically related to the main image. Extra special bonus if you can point me to software (how perfect would a GIMP plugin be? very perfect) that will generate one using a pile of images (cheating by adding tints to individual images is totally fine for these purposes). My cousin is trying to track down the exact location shown in this photo. The photo is about 20 years old, and was taken somewhere in Ireland.
I am looking for a digital camera that is easier to carry around than my DSLR, but a more capable camera than my smartphone. I am looking to spend at most $500. I have a couple ideas, but it's been a long time since I shopped for cameras, and I wanted some more recommendations. [more inside]
I got this print from a thrift store today. What mountain is it?
I guess I have the body (and ego) to ask this: Does anyone have any advice or suggestions on getting nude photos in the style of the ESPN body issue taken of one's self? [more inside]
Hi there, I'm teaching my Dad in China to use his Chinese App Store account - His iPhone and iPad Mini are his MAIN cameras these days, and he loves taking photos. I'm a bit rushed as I have to leave China soon, and don't have to time to search through Chinese app reviews (I don't know Chinese well anyway). So, please can you recommend any iPhone and iPad camera and photo apps (paid or free) available on the Chinese App Store that you love. Impressive apps are good; Impressive AND easy to learn and use apps (my Dad is not very tech-skilled and doesn't like complicated instructions) are the greatest. Thanks very much for your tips!!!
Looking for a picture of some (ivy league?) sports fans, in fur coats waving a pennant.
I am looking for software which would allow me search my Windows 7 laptop for every photo and video I have. Browsing the search results I would like to be able to see both pictures and videos in thumbnail form. I would then like to be able to copy all unique files to a hard-drive. Once copied I would like to organise them into folders chronologically. [more inside]
I'm Looking for a site for people to share photos/comments after an event, in as easy a way as possible, ideally without having to sign up with a password or use facebook. [more inside]
Can someone please point me to a step-by-step on how to fix this type of bad photo? I do not have photoshop, I can download GIMP or whatever freeware is popular and easy for home use these days. [more inside]

When digital photography was new, I saved everything at it's highest settings. Now that I currently have nearly 80 gigs of photographs, would it make sense to "downgrade" all of my photos to smaller sizes? [more inside]

I'd like to find high resolution versions of publicity photos from certain reality shows: Buck Wild, Duck Dynasty, Call of the Wildman, Here Comes Honey Boo Boo and Moonshiners. Obviously, the press is given access to these images so I wonder if any of those high resolution images are available to the public. [more inside]
My husband shoots & sells stock photos online. We recently discovered a local business has been using one of his images on their fleet of vehicles. They never bought it. He would like to get paid for it. How to proceed and is it worth it? [more inside]
I'm giving a photograph to my recently deceased friend's husband. It's a bit blurry, not terrible, but it really does show who she is. Is there a way to make it less blurry? Assume I have no expensive Photoshop or other program, just what comes in Microsoft package. And, feel free to give me simple instructions -- assume a limited computer knowledge. Many thanks.
What's the easiest way to set up a time-lapse camera that takes a picture at regular intervals over the course of many months (and possibly years)? [more inside]
Photo submitted to TV station in Montana - the horses at first seem almost "inserted" or 'shopped into the photo, but on closer look, seem legit. Any experts want to take a crack and confirm/deny this is an unaltered photo? Imgur link.
A friend found this picture in the basement of his apartment building, and it's killing us to try to figure out who it is. A roomful (OK, a barful) of people were convinced that it is "someone", but we can't quite place who. If it weren't for the teeth, I'd almost say it's Andy Griffith, but, you know, perfect teeth. When my partner started dating his now ex-wife, his first Hanukkah gift to her was an well-intentioned but ill-received doll that has become an ongoing joke for over 20 years. Now I want to see if I can have another doll made in the same manner, but I don't know where to look to have this done. [more inside]
You know that last time you drove through Mississippi or Louisiana and you passed by acre after acre of pine trees, all in nice rows? Help me find a publicly-accessible spot like that near New Orleans so that I can use it as a background in a photo. [more inside]
I've got this image of a piece of ground glass mounted in a standard 4x5 film holder. I've googled all sorts of things to try and describe what this is, but I cannot find where I can buy this. I've seen tons of pieces of ground glass that are for specific cameras, but that's not what I want. I want a piece of ground glass in (and sold with) a frame that makes it the exact size and thickness for putting into any sort of large format camera. Basically, what that picture shows. What is this and where do I buy it? Thanks!
Can you recommend some scanning software for me? I need to scan a whole bunch of older photos, and I'd like to do it relatively quickly. [more inside]
I have a good scan of the group photo from my grandparents wedding. I know who several of the people are in the photo, and I know that all my grandmother's eight brothers are in the group, but I do not know which brother is which. My Dad has made his best guesses, but he's not sure about many of them. I have recently made contact with several second cousins in the family while doing my genealogical research, so I thought I could get each of them to give me their best guesses in some sort of online survey, and compile the answers to get a sort of family crowd-sourced opinion. But how best to do this? [more inside]
I feel like I understand a thing or two about light, but I can't figure out how/why this particular phenomenon happens. This photo I took shows a shadow line cast by my bank (on the right) that seems to just hang in the air. [more inside]
Fan of photo collage journals like Peter Beard and the late Dan Eldon's work. Can anyone point me to other similar artists? [more inside]
So I did a time-lapse and set the frame rate way too high. Now it will only export around 700 pictures to the camera roll and I can't figure out how to get the rest. Every time I get the photos from camera roll to iPhoto, iLapse just starts from the beginning again. So I can get the first 700 just fine, but not the rest. This sucks. Please tell me there's a solution! [more inside]
Someone has asked to license a photo I took of someone else's art. I have no right to the artist's work; I took the photo at a museum. I have no intention of licensing my photo unless and until appropriate arrangements are made with the artist and museum. How to proceed? [more inside]
I like the look some photos have of only one spot being in focus and the edge areas being a bit out of focus like the one of the iron in this collage: http://www.funkyjunkinteriors.net/ How do I get it? How fancy of a camera do I need? Thanks!
I am looking for a drag and drop photo app for the ipad. Something that will let me import to ipad via drag and dropping while allowing me view and share photos on my ipad without having to sync through Iphoto.

Does anyone know a photo lab in central London that can develop a totally bog-standard roll of colour Fujifilm? Two complicating and unfortunately non-negotiable factors: (1) I need the negatives digitally scanned (2) I need to drop the roll off on Thursday and either collect the scans on Friday, or be emailed links to the scans at a later date. I don't care about prints.
New iPad synced half my photos and won't get the rest... Now what? [more inside]
