What's the easiest way to set up a time-lapse camera that takes a picture at regular intervals over the course of many months (and possibly years)?

I've got
this image of a piece of ground glass mounted in a standard 4x5 film holder. I've googled all sorts of things to try and describe what this is, but I cannot find where I can buy this. I've seen tons of pieces of ground glass that are for specific cameras, but that's not what I want. I want a piece of ground glass in (and sold with) a frame that makes it the exact size and thickness for putting into any sort of large format camera. Basically, what that picture shows. What is this and where do I buy it? Thanks!

I feel like I understand a thing or two about light, but I can't figure out how/why this particular phenomenon happens.
This photo I took shows a shadow line cast by my bank (on the right) that seems to just hang in the air.

I will be seeing in the New Year at the top of a 100 meter tall building in Buenos Aires. I have a Canon SX30 IS, a fairly high-end point and click which has plenty of manual settings. I want to make the most of the viewpoint to take photos of the fireworks that will be going off around the city - what should I know?

I just bought a new Canon digital camera, an SX110IS, and have discovered that it doesn't have the stitch assist mode. I may yet return it, but I'm wondering what would I need to do to still do a decent panorama without the assist? Obviously I have to frame the photos for overlap, but the real benefit of stitch assist mode was the exposure control. What should I do, manually, to get good panoramas as a result?

This new lens from Sigma (18-250 zoom) comes in a Pentax mount. Pentax puts their DSLR image stabilization in the camera body and not in the lens like Nikon or Canon. Yet the description for all the lenses is the same - image stabilization in the lens. Is this a case of cut&paste product descriptions or would using this lens on a Pentax camera have double image stabilization (both lens & camera body)?

Does this camera exist? If not, what comes closest? Slim, lightweight digital camera that 1) can be set to do
exposure bracketing of every shot, 2) uses either full-size SD or CF cards [not Memory Sticks], and 3) has an internal battery that charges via a standard mini-USB jack.

Why do digital SLRs have no shutter lag and digital P&Ss (even expensive ones) have a bad case of it? What's the technical reason I mean (I am not an engineer)? In fact, most people who still don't like digital mention shutter lag as a major problem of digital photography. Thanks.

two photography questions in one:
a. Does the Bronica ETRC have a double-exposure button/lever? If so, how do I use it? I know the ETRS does, but I can't seem to find one on my ETRC.
b. How can I take long time exposures on my Canon Powershot S70? I bought this because I wanted a lot of manual control, and I know it doesn't have a bulb setting, but is there a way to set really long (i.e., 60 second plus) exposures for tripod/night landscapes?
