Today I found out that the service that I've been using for at least a year now is closing down. I was on Flickr for a long time (starting 2006?), but I just don't trust Yahoo either. So I guess that means I should do something self-hosted...what are my options these days? [more inside]
My mother is a complete technophobe and I would love to find a digital portrait frame that I can control remotely. [more inside]
My guy sent me this cute photo of a cactus when I was nervous about a big presentation. He has a big interview coming up. Do you know of a similarly adorable, quirky, inspirational-ish meme photo that I can send him? [more inside]
I saw a framed picture of Kurt Cobain on some home decor website (probably a tour on apartmenttherapy.com) and now I'm fixated on finding it again. Can you help me unfixate? [more inside]
What are the best Windows 7 applications for making a respectful slideshow for a funeral? I'm thinking there will be mostly pictures, but some video may be included as well. For now I'm thinking I won't be including music in the slideshow, but I'd still like to hear about software with music functionality as well.
I'm looking to print 50 or so simple Christmas cards: Folded, regular sized, one of my photos on the front. I'd like to get these printed online (or, locally in Vancouver, Canada, if possible.) Any recommendations? Snapfish? MPIX? Quality, price and speed are my primary considerations. Thanks!
Can someone recommend a dynamic, curated, photo desktop replacement for the amazingly great dearly departed Bing Dynamic Desktop Theme for Windows (7)? [more inside]

I'm having some photos professionally taken and I would like to get them printed in a small, ideally pocket Moleskine-sized book. Where can I make that happen? [more inside]
Saw a framed photo thing yesterday, very curious as to what I'm looking at. Shitty pic of the whole thing here, closeups inside. [more inside]
We're leaving on a 2 week road trip and we'd like to take photos and have them placed onto a map by location to share with people so they can see where we are. I've found that Instagram's photo map is almost what we want, but not quite, so looking for similar apps. [more inside]
Have used the photo site Imgur, as thousands do..Lately, though, it no longer works for me, though it does for many others. I am told, via search on net, to empty cache, to close down addons, etc but that has not helped. Have written Imgur for help but no answer...Many others seem also to have this problem too but not everyone..Is there a quick and simple fix (I have no tech background) that might get Imgur working again for me?
Okay, so I just got back from a long vacation, where I took something like 5,000 photos. How do I sort, refine, process, and organize them? [more inside]
We're having eight Fuji Instax cameras at our upcoming wedding and I'm trying to estimate how much film we'll need. [more inside]
A headshot was recently taken of me by a friend, in front of an orange brick wall with a repeating interlocking Greek meander pattern (here is an example). I love the photo: finally, I look capable and presentable. But... does that pattern look too much like the Nazi cross? Should I try to get a new background? [more inside]
New York Magazine had a short piece the other day about some street photographers in NYC who post some jaw-dropping stuff on Instagram. I've really been enjoying following their feeds --- so now I'm wondering, what about the other great cities of the world? NYC can't have a monopoly on cool cityscapes. Can y'all hook me up with some other great Instagram accounts to follow? From Paris to Lagos to Phnom Penh, I'm interested. [more inside]
I'd love to see more work by this photographer. I've tried what I think are likely google searches and have found nothing - maybe I'm using the wrong search terms, but if anyone knows or has suggestions, I'd be grateful! Photo here.
It's 2014. I should be backing up my thousands of photos in iPhoto online. Please tell me he best options available for long-term storage. Print options would be nice too.
My phone camera had a bad day and somehow saved 3 pictures I took as the same image. ie when I click on the 3 different files, it displays the same image. But the thumbnails show the correct image for each of the 3 files. Somehow the jpg files must have got the thumbnails and bigger images mixed up. I've tried different viewers (on my Window computer) and get the same results. I believe jpgs can store several image versions - Is there some technique or software that might let me see and extract all the images within the jgp file? (with the hope to rescue the biggest version of my intended picture for each file). Thanks
Our family photos are a mess. We have 4ish years of mostly unedited, unsorted photos in iPhoto. I'd like to get a handle on what's there, sort and/or edit, possibly print some books (our son was born in 2011) and create a system that helps us avoid this disaster going forward. More details inside. [more inside]
I traveled to DC, SF, NYC, and a few other cities taking photos with a film camera... and I can't tell where this photo's from. City-identifiers with good memories, help me!
I've had this little home decor project idea floating around in my head for ages and I need a specific kind of picture frame to pull it off. One of those family collage frame type dealies that everybody's grandma has in the den. But they seem to have dropped out of fashion and I haven't been able to find one anywhere over the course of numerous googlings for the past year and a half. [more inside]
We want to print our wedding photos in a book for family. What website has cheap (and very good) wedding books? Any recommendations are appreciated.
I'm looking for a photoslider script that let's you manually slide between two overlaid images, for the purpose of displaying the differences between said images. Anything similar to the slider being used in this buzzfeed article. [more inside]
I saw a picture earlier this year, probably on Reddit and/or Imgur, of two young kids on a carnival ride having the time of their lives. Right behind them were two slightly older kids or teens looking sullen and glued to their phones. The general layout was something like this. Does anyone remember seeing it, or can you help me find it? [more inside]
Assume I know very very little about photography, but I have a small tripod, a Canon Rebel Xti DLSR and a 400 zoom lens. How do I photograph the Super Moon tomorrow over Lake Tahoe? [more inside]

Can anyone recommend a good, reliable photo scanning service in the UK? I need to scan a decent number of old family photos, and I've also got some VHS tapes I need to digitise. [more inside]
I was a very happy Picasa user, but for reasons like the push to G+ and an attempt to minimize my general Google reliance I'm looking for another service. [more inside]

Hey, I'm traveling and I want to start a blog to catalogue my adventures. Just something for friends and family that's a bit nicer and a little more personal than Facebook. Must be free, fairly traditional blog format (not Tumblr), emphasis on photography with captions. [more inside]
I have a bunch of 35mm negatives from the 90s and 00s I'd like to get scanned, and I'm wondering what services people recommend. ScanCafe was recommended in a previous post, which sounds like it would work for me, but I'm wondering if other folks have better / cheaper recommendations. In particular the color correction seems unnecessary to me since I can color correct the few images I'll probably want to post myself in Lightroom.
OK, so I recently spilled beer on my Fujifilm X100S. Doh! Luckily, the camera still functions fine. Unluckily, most of the manual control dials are now sticky and hard to adjust, including the focus ring, aperture ring, battery/card door and optical/digital viewfinder switch. It's kind of a mess. Help! [more inside]

We have our windows 7 computer organized by user, and the folder system is a mess. I want to be able to browse photos, and videos, by one simple criteria, date taken. For example, want to see every picture and video on my PC That was taken on July 19, 2013. I don't want it to be tricked by the save date, the edit date, what folder it's in, or which camera was used. Only the date I snapped the shot. Fantastic would be some kind of timeline that you can very quickly scroll thru and it shows you some kind of date display where you're at.

It was a photo of a sculpture created from collected rocks, that formed a dragon's head. The head was not upright, more as if you looked at a sleeping dragon from directly above it. The photo was seen about a two years on Facebook, in one of those photo blogs, though I can't remember any specific or general details about the blog. Any ideas on this photo of sculpture made from collected rocks that formed a dragon's head?
Do you live or know of neat places in Illinois, Missouri and Indiana that my explorer/photographer friend could visit? Let me know! [more inside]
I'm looking for a way to sort through my mountain of photos while I'm on the go, using an iPhone. (I shoot in RAW, so I guess it would need to involve exporting small JPGs to a Dropbox folder or an app.) I don't need to rate the photos, only flag/unflag/set as rejected (like Lightroom). The catch is that I'd like the changes I make on the go to somehow sync back to Lightroom on my computer. Is there an app for this that comes to mind, or any ideas you guys could suggest? Thanks!
I am thinking of buying a nice framed photo that is recognizably DC (landmarks, cherry blossoms, etc., or something more creative) as a wedding gift. I looked at Art.com and everything was pretty generic, 'obvious' and postcard-looking. I'd love to find a photo that is a bit more unique, or even perhaps a cool framed graphic print. My budget is not awesome: I am looking to spend under $300. Any recommendations of websites/photographers/artists I should check out?
I tried this last week but got no response, so I'm going to ask again in a somewhat more general way. I'm looking for a good photo printer that is reliable, takes lots of different paper sizes, doesn't cost a ton, and is relatively cheap to run. [more inside]
I have some artwork that I want to put on coffee mugs for friends. Though I see a few DIY sites, I am not sure what resin to use to hold up in microwave so would like your recommendations on commercial sites. I may eventually do bulk orders if I decide to sell so if you have any recommendations that would be different for bulk orders, I am game for those suggestions as well. Vistaprint was around $20-25 after all was said and done. Thanks, and enjoy your weekend.
I found this photo on a blog a few months ago. I have been looking for a larger higher quality version and or the name of the photographer to find out if I can purchase a print. This is what I know. It is from West Side Story It appears a number of times on the internet, all small pixel sizes The photographer is NOT Ernest Hass or Phil Stern (the two photographers who were present taking photos at some stage on the production of Westside Story) Thanks, this one baffles me. When I have time I will go to the Motion Picture Academy Library (I live in Los Angeles) and see if I can find out anything more, but until then I thought I would let Mefi rip on it!)
I am starting a blog which will feature photographs taken by my boyfriend and myself. He is a professional video cameraman and also an excellent photographer but neither of us are stylists. Can you help with some prop and set up ideas? [more inside]
